ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Profile
Ivory Bridge is a self-stylized group that features dynamic and versatile solo, duet, trio and quartet vocal arrangements accompanied by all acoustic instrumentation. The band presents a unique repertoire of musical styles consisting of hard driving bluegrass, blues, spiritual, old time, and western swing and, in addition, about 90% of the bands play list is written and composed by the band members themselves. The members of Ivory Bridge are as diverse as the music they play.

Band Members
Kathleen Liners, on Bass and lead vocals, created Ivory Bridge in 1986 and is the main song writer for the group. She was introduced to Bluegrass and Bill Liners while touring Alaska with the Bluegrass based Broadway musical production of 'The Robber Bridegroom’ in 1984. Kathe was raised on the Big Band or Torchlight approach to vocals and later developed her own distinctive Bluegrass vocal style. In addition, her song writing skills have been widely admired in the region since the release of the Stoney Lonesome compilation CD in 1997 titled after her original tune, 'Loves Last Request'. Several of Kathe’s originals can also be heard on Ivory Bridge’s first CD release, 'Chase My Blues Away' and composed 7 of the 12 tunes on Ivory Bridge’s latest CD release, ’Traveller.’ Kathe provides the primary artistic vision for Ivory Bridge. Her love is like the music she plays, and it radiates all around her. She is a woman of faith and leads by example. Kathleen, and long time friend and former band mate, Lincoln Potter, placed first in the 2008 Minnesota Bluegrass and Old Time Music Association’s Vocal Duet Contest at the Minnesota State Fair.

Bill Liners, on guitar and vocals and co-founder of Ivory Bridge, picked up a guitar at the age of 9 to back up his older brother Eric on the banjo. Ivory Bridge, Dick Kimmel and Co., Stoney Lonesome, The Couple Downstairs and Alaska's Grass Plus have all benefited from Bill's driving rhythm and superb leads and vocals. Bill is a multiple winner of the Minnesota State Flatpicking Championship.

John Bodle, on mandolin and vocals and newest member of the group, comes from a musical family and has been immersed in traditional and bluegrass music his whole life. John also plays banjo and guitar and took second place in the Minnesota State Flatpicking Championship in 2012. He has performed with bluegrass legend, Larry Rice, and also with Endless Highway, and Acoustic Alliance.

Jim Tordoff, on banjo and vocals and member since 2003, has a preference for the tone of the arched top banjo of the 1920's era and currently plays a 1927 Gibson Granada refitted with a 5-string neck. He is an alumnus of the Middle Spunk Creek Boys, Wolverines Classic Jazz Orchestra, the Sorry Muthas, and the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Gunther Shuller. Mr. Tordoff has also performed with local legends Bill Hinkley and Judy Larson, Peter Ostroushko, the Bistodeau sisters, and national performers such as Vassar Clements and Frank Wakefield. During the summer of 2012, Jim accompanied the Circus Juventas production of "Showdown" with fellow performers Peter Ostroushko, Sedra Bistodeau, and Marc Anderson.

Mission Statement
This is a band that knows where they come from and their musical play books are indeed diverse. Each member purposefully sought out others with whom the flame burned brightly. They were brought together with a common goal, to be an example to each other, to play the best music possible, and to share that music with those who embrace it.
