Album Notes
On September 23, 2005, hurricane Rita was making her way through the Gulf of Mexico toward the coasts of Texas and Louisiana. The first predictions for land arrival were the vicinity of Galveston Texas and over a million people evacuated the surrounding area. My mother, sister and her family were not among them and decided to stay and take their chances at home. That Friday night, as I and millions of others anxiously waited to see were Miss Rita would land, I recorded a song that will forever mean a lot to me and bring back the memory of that night. I named that song Hurricane and as the other songs got recorded for this CD, more hurricanes came and went. I couldn’t think of a more appropriate title to this project than....Hurricane.

This is Mark’s third CD project after years of rock and country groups, New York City and Nashville show bands, Top 40 Rock Bands and tours throughout the USA, Canada and Asia (including Tokyo Japan and Beijing China) and over a hundred studio recorded demos, jingles and albums. This respected sideman has taken center stage with his third album “Hurricane” an impressive mix of 11 original instrumental songs all written, played and produced by Mark Iwaniak. Like his other CDs, the variety of song styles and tasteful guitar tones clearly show Mark’s wide ranging-experience, and demonstrates moods of Santana, guitar harmonies of the Allman Brothers and gentle nuances of Dire Straits Mark Knopfler. However, the acoustic guitar clearly takes a forefront on the majority of the songs in this CD. The sounds and styles of the songs on this CD vary but the melodic phrasing takes a front seat throughout.

"Tears of Joy" Interesting, haunting and beautiful. It meanders just enough and builds, always moving ahead without being repetitive.
"Hurricane" Great guitar harmonies and ominous feel. Like a modern day jazz rock classic.
"Relativity" This engaging acoustic guitar melody demonstrates Mark’s ability to make instrumental arrangements interesting with great electric guitar interplay.
"Blues for George” Not just another blues song. Another example of Mark’s originality and how he can make instrumental arrangements interesting to listen to.
"The Soul is Forever" This is a very smooth song with stylish guitar playing and velvety tone.

"For years I’ve been a sideman guitarist with touring shows and now here I am, writing and composing songs and playing guitar music that has been in my head and heart for a long time. It’s what I love to do. When I played my first New Years Eve job at age 13 in a small bar near the Polish neighborhood where I grew up on the east side of Buffalo, NY, I knew I was hooked and playing guitar has become a lifelong passion."

Recently, some of Mark’s compositions, including three songs from his first CD “Lost Lonely Rider” and one song from his second CD “Enchantment”, have been featured on the Sunday evening Yellowstone Public Radio (KEMC-FM 97.1 Billings) program called Montana Music Show. His song, Buffalo Blues from his “Lost Lonely Rider” CD, was featured on YPR’s Blue Light Boogie with Art Hooker program, which highlights world famous blues artists. Locals up early enough to catch “Marcy in the Morning” on Glendive Broadcasting’s KDXN FM 96.5 channel will generally get a taste of his talent. His guitar playing and producing talent were featured in the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Miss Montana Pageant and the song "My Dancing Theresa" on "Electric Revolution" cd was the song selection for the swimsuit walk portion of the show.

“Mark Iwaniak is a guitar player who currently lives in Glendive Montana, but has lived and performed throughout the United States. He releases mostly instrumental albums covering many genres of music. The talented Iwaniak plays all the instruments in a broad range of styles, engineers and sings vocals on the mainly instrumental albums”. Scott Prinzing… Director of Education MusEco Media and Education Project, Billings MT and host of Yellowstone Public Radio (KEMC-FM 91.7 Billings) program called Montana Music Show.

Surprisingly well put together album and great guitar playing
Your music has surprised me in how well it is all put together. Your song selections are unique and original but they all work together to complete a very nice album with a great mix of songs. I'm actually inspired by your work. When you just sit down and really listen to what your doing it's just fantastic.

They just keeping getting better and better. I have your two other CDs Lost Lonely Rider and Enchantment. Hurricane is an outstanding display of not only your technical expertise and ability to portray the passion in your soul, but it also displays a musical variety that is hard to match. I love every song.
