ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jack is an award winning yachtsman who learned how to sail as a kid on Chesapeake Bay in Maryland, where he was born and raised. The Navy brought Jack to San Diego in 1951, and he never left. Jack taught sailing lessons in San Diego in the 1960’s and opened Jack Dorsee Sailboats in 1965. It became the top sailboat dealership in California, and Jack remained an avid sailor for over 40 years. He sailed in several Transpac Sailing races and Acapulco Sailing races throughout his career and also served on the California Boating and Waterways Commission. Jack and his wife of 46 years, Karolyn, have one daughter, Debbie, and a grandson named David.

On Jack’s 75th Birthday, Karolyn gave him a gift of singing lessons. She knew that Jack liked challenges and would enjoy the creative outlet. Thinking about his life-long affinity for music and accomplished vocalists, he said ‘why not?’ After six lessons, his vocal teacher was enthusiastic enough about Jack’s potential to introduce him to voice development teacher Martin Grusin, who has worked with many professional singers and sang for years with a trio on the Johnny Carson Show.

Jack never looked back. He spent six years with Martin, during which time he was fortunate enough to also work with the talented Rob Gironda, learning about the nuances of music and how a singer adapts to them. To develop his performance style, Jack turned to Eve Selis and Mattie Mills, two great singers with years of experience. This talented duo taught Jack countless crowd-pleasing vocal techniques that he put to work in his music.

At 82 years young, Jack has recorded his fifth album. These 10 songs represent his favorite jazz standards and country songs, originated by some of his favorite artists.
