ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jack Gates has spent his career studying many music genres, especially from India, South and Central America, Cuba and the Carribean, Africa and Europe. His music includes a raga form here, a Samba beat there, an Afro-Cuban structure elsewhere, and much more. Those world fusion elements are then blended with the sounds of new age, jazz and folk to create a delectable mix with broad appeal to many audiences.

"This album was written and recorded while I was living in a forest in the mountains above Santa Cruz, California. The music has a peaceful quality and is certainly an outgrowth of meditation and being close to nature in a place where I could explore music without a lot of interruptions. I found a recording studio in those mountains down a winding dirt road that had just the right ambience." - Jack Gates

Jack Gates is joined on most of the tunes by drummer and percussionist Steve Robertson and acoustic bassist Stan Poplin. Other guests include Damien Masterson on harmonica and cellist Michal Palzewicz.

JACK GATES HAS STUDIED GUITAR MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD AND BRINGS MANY FLAVOR
JACK GATES
BRING THE FLAVORS
WHITEGATES

On his new album, guitarist JACK GATES says he brings the flavors of the world to his music to subtly spice it up. If you listen carefully to the rhythms and motifs of this ensemble album you will hear musical elements gently mixed in from India, South and Central America, Cuba and the Caribbean, Africa and Europe -- a raga form here, a samba beat there, an Afro-Cuban structure elsewhere, and much more.

Gates plays both acoustic nylon-string guitars and electric guitars, and he receives assistance on various tracks from a bassist, a percussionist-and-drummer, a harmonica player and, on one number, a cellist.

This is quiet, peaceful, gentle, instrumental music that bridges from new age to gentle jazz to world-fusion. Take a listen to BRING THE FLAVORS and enjoy the sounds of a guitarist influenced by the musical idioms and artforms found scattered across our planet.
