ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, I began studying guitar at age thirteen with my first professional gig in 1967. In High School with two friends, I formed the rock band known as "Crossfire." Crossfire appeared on several local television programs and regularly played gigs in and around Columbia and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina until it dissolved in 1971. During college, I worked as a solo performer in lounges owned by the Best Western chain of hotels until 1977. After college, I played with several acoustic groupings in South Carolina and Virginia specializing in "ole time" and folk music. I retired from music in the 1980s and 1990s until I joined the folk bands "Lost River" and Shadowdancer from 2000 until 2008. I now perform solo and with my band called "Watersprite" which has performed all over Kentucky, Tennesee, Indiana and South Carolina.

While in college, I began to develop an interest in world religions, focusing on Hinduism, mysticism and traditional folk religions. I've done considerable fieldwork with traditional healers during this time. As a result, I am currently under contract for a book entitled "American Shamans: journeys with traditional healers" to be published in 2006 by BUSCA Publishing and will recount my adventures with these very special people. I currently work as a librarian at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green Kentucky.

Musically, I am interested in traditional Celtic and contemporary folk, and I write my own songs and poetry. I have a passion for discovering older material and giving it a new musical life. The scientist Albert Einstein once said, "The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science." "Everywhere I Look" is a musical collage of impressions, observations, yearnings, aspirations and my response to the mysterious and Divine. It includes my love for folklore and traditional music, as well as for exploring different genres of musical expression.

Terrific! A wide variety of traditional, contemprary, country, and blues!
This album has deep and versitile dimensions, making it a fantastic collection. There are a variety of styles, from traditional to contemporary Celtic, from Country to Blues. The first song on the album, "Next to You," is a perfect way to start out, giving the listener pleasure while promising great things to come. Although I didn't connect personally with the next few songs, the Gnostic Blues was absolutely terrific! From there on, the entire rest of the album was consistemtly terrific.

I was especially impressed by the Gnostic Blues, Maying Song, John Barleycorn, Matronae, Graduation, and Roots of Oak.

Altogether, this was a superb listening experience!

Jack's voice is so majestic, yet gentle in a unique way.
Jack Montgomery's voice is so majestic, yet gentle in a unique way on hearing "Everywhere I Look". Sometimes the ethereal quality reminds me of the "Moody Blues" who I always dug. This music puts me in a state of comfort(so needed today)and moves me in a nostalgic, worldly way. I am definitely letting some folks in Indianapolis know about this CD.

Jack Montgomery scores another winner of an album!
The variety on Everywhere I Look is astounding--there is something for everyone on this album, and yet, the diversity in no way detracts from its overall appeal! You want rockin', we got rockin'! You want ballads, we got ballads! You want socially relevant lyrics, we got 'em, too! On the list of favorites, Little Match Girl will not fail to bring tears to your eyes, Next to You describes the kind of trust we all long for, Everywhere I Look is a love song to the Divine, with a unique perspective, Matronae is a toe-tappin' rocker you will play over and over again, and Reflection is a reminder of how swiftly our lives go--so cherish what we have! Montgomery does a fantastic rendition of Roots of Oak--I've heard his version in many incarnations, and this is by far, the best! Lost River and friends provide varied and talented accompaniment--Montgomery has assembled some of the best musicians in the area to grace this moving, poignant, and relevant collection. Whaddaya waitin' for?! Order it already!! ~RMS

A Truly Fine Album
As my English friends say -- "Good on you!" This is truly a fine album. I can't listen to Gentle Johnny while I'm driving. The windows get all fogged up.

Everywhere I look, is folklore at its grandest. I love the variety of songs, from new tunes to good old favorites. The vocals are fabulously mixed and it is great to hear Molly and Susan again. Lesley is so talented in watercolor, she amazes me everytime. The style of CD production is wonderful. The photos are so very proffesional and a great addition. Wonderful!
