Album Notes
I’m a three tour veteran of the Afghan war struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but I don’t consider myself disorderly; I feel this is a natural consequence of war. PTSD has had many names over the years: Battle Fatigue, Shell Shock, War Neurosis, and Soldier's Heart, to name a few. I feel Soldier's Heart, the American Civil War term, is most appropriate for what I struggle with. My heart is wounded as a result of Moral Injuries and this album is an attempt to explore my wounds.

I feel this project is a great example of how it takes a community to heal a veteran. Working on this album has been one of the most healing experiences I’ve had since returning from War and I highly encourage communities across the country, and the world, to take some responsibility in the healing process of their veterans. It is true, we volunteered to protect, but it’s the people who ask us to go to war. As a result, we are all affected by war.

This album was written over the winter of 2012 in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. Afghan War veteran Jacob George and Adam Cox, a dear friend and song writer, envisioned an album of music capable of articulating the consequences of the Afghan War and most importantly, PTSD and Moral Injury. Once we finished the writing, folk artist and sound engineer Kelly Mulhollan stepped in and brought Soldier’s Heart to life. Under his care, this album was produced with 100% acoustic hillbilly precision.
