ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jacqui Sharkey is a singer/ songwriter from Donegal, Ireland. Her debut album, 'A New Dawn', with thirteen tracks, is a collection of original songs and covers, the latter of which were chosen from some of Jacqui's favourites, including the Randy Goodrum classic, 'You Needed Me', made known by the wonderful Anne Murray, and Beth Nielsen Chapman's 'Sand And Water'. The album has been described as a mixture of Americana/ Roots, New Country & Folk, with a slight hint of Jazz/Pop in Jacqui's self-composed songs, 'Midnight Symphony' (co-written with Ian Smith) and 'Be My Valentine'. Jacqui's latest composition, 'If I Had You', is the bonus track on the album. 'A New Dawn', co-produced with Jacqui and engineered by Irish Country artist Seamus McGee, features a host of celebrated musicians, including Nashville based Eamonn McLaughlin of 'Green Card' on strings and mandolin, well known, Acoustic Guitarist Des Moore, drummer Billy Borgogne, pianist and bassist Ray McLoughlin (who also co-arranged the music), electric guitarist Matt Curran, and singer/ songwriter Ian Smith on additional acoustic guitar and backing vocals.

Jacqui has also recently made available for digital download four Celtic/ folk tracks which have previously not been released, including the beautiful, traditional Irish love song, 'The Dawning Of The Day', and 'A Red, Red Rose' by Scots poet, Robert Burns.

Her latest offering, 'Blame It On Your Heart', is an upbeat, toe tapping New Country song by Howard Harlan and Kostas, which features some of Ireland's finest musicians. The two track single also features a remix of Jacqui's recording of Jessi Colter's 'I'm Not Lisa'.

SOME OF JACQUI'S REVIEWS:

"Jacqui Sharkey's warm and tender voice brings me straight to one of my favourite places...Donegal. Whether she applies it to Folk, New Country or Jazz, the spirit of her homeplace comes through the gorgeous sound she makes."

Paul Brady, Recording Artist/ Singer/ Songwriter

"She’s as good as it gets. She’s as good as the best…”
Gerry Anderson, BBC Radio Ulster

“A NEW DAWN is the stunningly arranged 12 track debut from gifted newcomer, Jacqui Sharkey; a collection of inspiring co-writes and beautifully interpreted covers amid a gentle blend of Americana, country, pop and folk…”
Maverick Magazine

"She's got an absolutely cracking voice...this new album is quite a sensational offering. I think she's a lady to be reckoned with....I told you, she is a touch of magic..."
Brian Clough, The American Connection

"Sharkey tackles Randy Goodrum’s unconditional love song, ‘You Needed Me’ from 1978, a much-loved track from her childhood days when raiding her parent’s record collection. It was a #1 hit for Anne Murray in America and gave Irish boy band Boyzone a chart topper in the UK in May 1999. Jacqui’s voice has an uncanny resemblance to the aforementioned Canadian songstress and her lower-register is equally delicious..."
