ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Her music brought tears to my eyes as I experienced my heart opening with the Chants. Such a free spirit who lives and breathes her own song to the Beloved.
~ Maria Dutra, Winnipeg

Jai Gopal's transition into kirtan and chant started in the late 1990s when she discovered Kundalini Yoga and the meditative chants that come out of the Yogi Bhajan and Sikh tradition.

Hearing these profound sound currents encouraged her to expand her singer/songwriter leanings and step into the open-hearted path of devotional chants and mantras using her spiritual name, Jai Gopal.

Now her musical role models include such potent luminaries as Nirinjan Kaur, Deva Premal, Snatam Kaur and Guru Singh Experience.

Though it wasn't until 2012 that she received the name "Jai Gopal" (Victorious Lioness of God, who acknowledges the One who protects the world), completed the Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training soon after, and dove even deeper into the mystical music of the Sikh path.

Chant Your Heart Open by Jai Gopal

Chant Your Heart Open Worth a Listen
"Chant Your Heart Open" by Jai Gopal
This CD of mantras and sacred songs is a gem that combines traditional Kundalini Yoga mantras with the words and music of Jai Gopal Kaur, also known as singer-songwriter Wendy DeMos, formerly of Ottawa, and now based in Vancouver.
The four tracks provide about 40 minutes of music that is well worth a listen if you're looking to feel peace and beauty with a Celtic spin.
The first track is inspired by the title track of "To Dream Again", her successful album of spiritually inspired songs released in 1996.
Like all the tracks, "Chant Your Heart Open" contains Kundalini Yoga mantras and is accompanied by Jai Gopal’s beautiful voice, melodic guitar, gorgeous harmonies, and even beatbox carries the rhythm in Ra Ma Da Sa.
You are effortlessly carried along on the sound current of melodic chants that are defined in the helpful liner notes.
Aad Guray Nameh features beautiful flute music and is “a mantra used to invoke the protective energy of the Universe.”
The tracks Holy Longing/Sat Nam and This Life/Hu Satya Naam soulfully delve into expressions of sat (truth) and nam (name), a core principle in Kundalini Yoga. They feature soaring vocals and exotic-sounding slide guitar, flute, acoustic guitar, and percussion.
“We are the ones we have been waiting for,” Jai Gopal reminds us, as well as gratitude for this life.
The album is deeply relaxing and evokes peaceful feelings as well as a sense of lightness. In Jai Gopal’s words: “With each chant we invoke different aspects of the One Infinite Reality: love, compassion, healing.”
Digital downloads are available at SpiritVoyage.com, itunes.com or cdBaby.com. In Ottawa, visit PranaShanti Yoga Studio for the actual CD or, in Vancouver, visit YogaWest Yoga Studio. Or, contact ChantYourHeartOpen.com.
