Album Notes
Beltane means "bright fire" in Gaelic. In ancient times fires were lit on the eve of May to celebrate the beginning of the growing season. Villagers "jumped the fire" to bring good luck. They danced and feasted in the newly-planted fields, rejoicing in the return of the Green Time.

At Beltane, the earth calls all life to awaken and bloom. Jaiya has created a collection of original songs that celebrate renewal. Their music reminds us to connect with life's deep and enduring cycles.

“There is something strangely stirring about this music, something hopeful and affirming. It's music from the hills, from far away, and from home, all at the same time. However Jaiya does it - whether it's the jazzy accordion, the pennywhistle, the harp or those beautiful voices - what results is a deep and unshakeable certainly that the clouds will part, the auld moon will rise again, everything is going to be alright, after all.” Terry Glavin, Transmontanus Press, BC

“Jaiya, quite an exquisite group from Mayne Island
- another good reason to go to folk festivals, to discover groups like them.”

Beltane is a winner!
Beltane is a winner! Fine playing on this album, Folks. Brown's harp is stellar, and Darwin's accordion stylish and original. Whitehead's and Brown's vocals are luscious and beautiful-blended. This CD bears repeated playing. Each time I listen I hear more - there are so many layers and nuances here. Hats off to Jaiya!

Superb music, excellent lyrics!
This is a powerful album - full of energy and soul, ranging from sweet and lyrical to rythmic and driving. Excellent musicianship throughout. Vocal harmonies that will send shivers up your spine! I give it my most highly recommended rating!

Wow! This is great music!
I am so glad I accidentally discovered this awesome group from Canada. I am a pagan, and I can tell you there is not a lot of really high quality Pagan music out there! Here is it, though! Lovely lyrics, gorgeous vocals, great (and unusual) blend of instruments. I have both Jaiya's albums now, and look forward to their next one!

This is exquisite!
This is exquisite music! I heard a cut on my local radio show and went straight to the internet to track it down. Jaiya's songs are very moving - such gorgeous harmonies from the two lead singers. And the poetry is beautiful too. I love the unusual pairing of the accordion's jazzy soloing with the Celtic harp and whistle sounds. Gives the music a lot of vitality at times, which compliments the lyric soulfulness of the softer tunes.

good for Beltane
I plan on using this great cd for beltane!
