Album Notes
Praise for Rock Your Socks Off…

2006 Parents’ Choice GOLD Award Winner
"Singer/songwriter Charity Kahn and her jammin' band create soul and rock'n’roll vibes authentic enough for any adult fan, but not at the expense of the young target audience. Catchy melodies and wonderfully imaginative, meant-to-be-heard lyrics aim straight for a child's spirit, eager mind and dancing feet. This is one memorable -- and happily repeatable -- album."

"Listening to these grooves, which sound tailor-made for an outdoor rock festival, you can imagine an army of toddlers hopping into their Bugaboos to follow the group on tour, like preschool Phish-heads. The songs are danceable yet sophisticated; nowhere will you hear a funkier Ring Around the Rosie."

From ZOOGLOBBLE (recently featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition as the Authority on hip, new kid’s music):
"Filled with enough boogie-friendly music to tucker out even the most energetic of kids, and kid-friendly and self-empowering themes mixed with a (I wouldn't say it if weren't true) jam-band attitude and style."

"The JAMband, based in San Francisco, has a sophisticated but rocking sound that will appeal to parents as well as children. Featuring 13 tunes written by lead singer Charity Kahn, there is a wide range of musical styles and never a dull moment. Each song is upbeat and empowering for children. From the bicycle bell opening of Travelin' (a kicking rock song detailing a road trip, featuring dissonance not often found in children's music) to the easy rock of JAM Is, Kahn is a chameleon. She shifts her sound throughout, inspired by the styles of Stevie Nicks (Jump into the Middle), Madeleine Kahn (Towel Tango), and Chaka Khan (Happy Birthday Baby), among others. Haunting harmonies and a fine piano accompaniment make Whatcha Gonna Bring (a celebration of self) a standout. Syncopation makes Happy Fluffy pop. Background vocals in Super Hero include 50's doo-wop, breathy Rocky Horror Picture Show-type echo responses, and rap. Partner Dance is a montage of sound (melding conga, easy rock, and blues) about farm animals and includes a riff off Ring Around the Rosie. We Need Mud features only a drum, chant, and children responding. Four part a capella harmonies on Peace Dream are inspired.”

"Backed by fine players and vibrant harmonies on some infectious choruses, Kahn delivers an eclectic menu sure to please. For anyone who doubts that the nursery rhyme Ring Around the Rosie has potential as a slightly gritty, jam-worthy rock number, check out the stellar Partner Dance."

"Charity and the JAMband harness enough energy to light up the national power grid on Rock Your Socks Off. Propelled by driving rock'n'roll and steered by sassy-sweet vocals, the JAMband's creation is boatloads of fun to listen and dance to."

"Charity's supported by ace musicians who play with enough bounce to please kids and sufficient sass to keep adults engaged. Get the kids dancing!"

"I LOVE CHARITY AND THE JAMBAND!!! They really do have a magic potion here, full of funk and rock, peace and love.”

"Like Phish for kids."

Rock Your Socks Off is the third offspring of San Francisco's most hip-happy family music group, Charity and the JAMband. It's a jamboree of dance-happy tunes meant for the whole family to share. "Our music celebrates the joy of childhood and family life," explains Charity Kahn, band leader, songwriter, lead vocalist and keyboard player with the JAMband. Kahn, a mathematician, musician and mother of two young children, has published a book on the connections between math and music. Her music-activity Jamboodas classes in San Francisco are popular with parents, caregivers and kids. Kahn strives to spread joy, connection and family fun through song, dance and silliness. She's been rocking the kids ever since she became a mom.

Songs you won't mind getting stuck in your head
Overall great cd - FOR PARENTS. Finally some tunes you don't mind singing over and over and over. Great to pop in cd player when you need a little distraction for the kid and a pick me up for yourself.

A definite get up and move CD
The minute we put this CD into the player, my son and I started dancing around. Pretty soon we were singing along. The chorus' are easy to learn and very catchy. The songs make you want to get up and keep moving. A four year old friend listened to it stated that it was "rockin' music."

Happy Fluffy Fun!
Don't play this one anywhere near bedtime! The music kicks butt (and that from an old Deadhead) and the kids LOVE the lyrics. Mom scoffed at first, but is now a believer in the "jam band for kids" genre.

Big sound - Big fun
It's so refreshing to hear original kids' songs with memorable melodies and excellent instrumentation. Try Jump into the Middle if you wanna dance. My son loves the lyrics and hand motions for Cake. We Need Mud taps into kids at a primal level - I heard one of my son's friends still singing this a week after he heard it once. My son also asks me to sing him Peace Dream at bedtime. Whatcha Gonna Bring is so accepting and open-hearted, I get happy tears. My husband starts the CD with Partner Dance so he can hear it twice. I could say something great about each song, but I'll stop.

It just keeps getting better and better
The music by Charity and the JAMband just keeps getting better and better - just when I think she's hit the jackpot with the best song ever for kids, she comes out with another winner. This cd will definitely grow with your kids - my two year old loves it, my 4 year old loves and my 6 year old nephew loves it. Charity has a rare talent. It's not obscure adult music with kid-friendly lyrics and it's not the usual annoying, repetitive kid music - it appeals to the whole family! I don't know how she does it, but I can't wait to hear the next one.

Finally ... music for her that I want to listen to!
Finally! Kid music that I actually want to drive around listening to? It's fun, hip, and right on ... thank you Charity.
