Album Notes
James is a Rock Poet from New Norfolk, Tasmania, and Beijing, China. He released Green Star Over China in October 2016, with an accompanying tour of China, playing shows across the country. The album features five songs, including the politically charged title track; the single, Circle, whose video you will find on Youtube; and the epic collaboration between James (music) and the famous Chinese poet, author and economist Zhu Ying (lyrics), 不以为然 (Buyiweiran), a piece bordering on twelve minutes long entirely in Chinese.

Here is an artist who has something to say. He seems to be able to bear witness to an unfiltered universal truth and express it plainly in a way that is common to all human experience. In person though, he tends to be quite aloof, often citing abstractions such as life, death, nature, freedom and solitude as his influences. Thus he attempts to assert his authenticity, and while his sound is very unique - a combination of his deeply resonant semi-Australian vocals, his worldly but raw guitar style, other-worldly harmonies, and minimalist production techniques - one can feel some familiar bardic essence, whether in the tradition of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Ted Hughes, Dante or Homer does not seem greatly relevant to the artist. He is not attempting to entertain or invoke nostalgia, but does so regardless through fluid metaphors crafted from the most exquisite lyrics.

If you enjoy Green Star Over China, keep in touch with James about his upcoming release, Sun Dragon. It is currently in the final stages of production, and is said to be "a journey through yourself, into someone else and right back out again".
...Whatever that means.
