Words of the Prophets, Vol. 1

by James Dunne

The magic of these songs is the beauty of ancient text set to music, like modern psalms. Today, we say, “I cried,” and in Hebrew poetic imagery we find, “My eyes water my pillow by night.” 17 Artists contributed to this production, 24 years in the making.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album exhibits the wisdom, passion, testimony, and joy of ancient prophets, with harmonies added to symbolize the many people who have since quoted them.

Here is an excerpt from a reviewer - a folksinger from Nashville, Tennessee, USA: “...The immediate effect on me was of being soothed and uplifted, being embalmed and surrounded with a sense of acceptance, encouragement and strength. I listened with my eyes shut and I felt so “hugged” by your music and the lyrics. You are teaching me, reminding me of what is the truth of the world and is so reassuring to my inner spirit. It was exquisite to shut off the world and listen to such melodious singing and the delightful harmony. What a lovely treat to my ear, my heart and my spirit!”

The Words of the Prophets, Volume 1 includes a 22-second orientation message for the listener, followed by 11 full-length songs in chronological order from Lehi to Alma in the Book of Mormon. The lyrics are all taken from the Book of Mormon with artistic adaptation. Most of the songs express personal feelings or testimonies of specific prophets. Two of the songs, “Joy” and “For a Wise Purpose,” are “topic” songs, with the lyrics taken from multiple prophets and put together in collage form.

These songs may also be considered in the light of a scripture study guide supplement… that provokes thoughts like, “Why were those lyric excerpts selected to tell the story?” Or, “Why was the music created to emphasize certain parts, or nearly disappear in places?” Or, for simply enjoying the spirit of these fine messages, set to enhancing musical presentations, while commuting or working on a project.

This production is a work of love from a Family Man, Composer, Multi-instrument Musician, Marathoner, Mountain Climber, Lover of Ancient Text, Backpacker, Storyteller, Olympic Torch Bearer, Campfire Fan, Wakeboarder, Fun Lover, Sentimentalist, Audio Engineer, Music Producer, Writer, Hiker, Creek & Ice Kayaker... in short… an explorer of all good things for mind, body, spirit and soul... and founder of TrebleClefMusic.com.

Loved it!
Music has always been close to my heart, so the idea of setting familiar scripture phrases to music is amazing! I love the arrangements and vocalists and these songs always make my heart feel uplifted and joyful!
