Album Notes
This is the companion CD to my latest novel, Matamoros (available on amazon) - a Civil War adventure romance set on the Rio Grande in 1863. Matamoros - the Mexican town across the river from Brownsville, Texas - was the only port where the Confederacy could ship cotton to Europe and smuggle guns in to the South. At the same time, Napoleon III had just invaded Mexico. Consequently Matamoros was a hive of Yankee and Rebel spies, corrupt cotton brokers, gunrunners, French Foreign Legionnaires and rogues of every stripe.

Each song on this CD is about one of the characters in the novel - and in the musical idiom of that character. The Irish Legionnaire sings an Irish folk tune, the naval blockade runner sings a sea shanty, the Cuban revolutionary has a heroic anthem; all rounded out in the American folk tradition.

I started my career as a novelist and novelizer (Return of the Jedi, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Goonies, Poltergeist); and television writer-producer, of shows such as Melrose Place and Star Trek: Voyager. But I've turned to music the last several years. My last CD was The Meaning of Life, contemporary folksongs about the passage of time and, well, the meaning of life.

This CD is my current favorite, though. It's musically, lyrically, and conceptually dense - and a lot of fun to listen to. Hope you like it.
