ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
In the classic days of music, albums would take listeners on a journey. Songs would link and flow together to create a consistent focus or a theme. James’ Son has taken this approach in a new direction. The lyrics carry many consistent threads, but the music is a Journey in itself. Blues and Rock and Roll, Bluegrass and Gospel, James’ Son calls on many styles to deliver its lyrical message. From the dark and prophetic to the satirically comic, it is impossible to pin an exact style on James’ Son. However, if diversity in music combined with accomplished musicianship and thought provoking lyrics appeals to you, than ‘Brother Mayhem’ is a must listen.
Based out of Sackville Nova Scotia, ‘James’ Son’ is a combination of the song writing, vocals and guitar work of Bernie Doucette, with the performance (piano, drums, bass), engineering and production work of John Murphy.
Their last project, Alberta Dust, was the ‘Pick of the Week’ in the Chronicle Herald Newspaper and drew comparisons from Stephen Cooke, Chronicle Herald Entertainment Journalist, to the works of Bob Dylan and Gordon Lightfoot. Ginger Seaboyer, Bassist for John Campbell John, compared the lead guitar work on ‘Alberta Dust’ (Doucette’s third original album since 2007) to George Harrison’s later efforts with slide and traditional lead intermixed to build a developing melody line for each of James’ Son’s original works.
Done entirely without auto tune or studio wizardry, Brother Mayhem is meant to be a throw-back to the glory years of music recording when every note had to be performed and recorded live. We sincerely hope you enjoy the trip!
