Album Notes
“… A musician and composer of beautiful, melodic, musical meditations infused with hope and healing.” -The Voice Magazine

‘Return to Good,’ is an original album filled with glorious references to nature, and the human experiencing of it. The music is a perfect soundtrack full of melodic charm and grace. Along with richness of timbre and expression in the performances, there is the sparkle and joy of light improvisations.

In addition to composing and orchestrating the music, Wallace explores tantalizing sonic choices: An example is the standout track, “River: Young” featuring a vocal choir, and based on a Japanese haiku, “River,” published by Fourth Dimension in Montreal. The chicory wood piccolo has a prominent role in this minimalist setting of voices, winds and strings that suggests the writings of Phillip Glass, with its wispy trails of melodic motifs and undulating rhythms.

“Earth Around the Sun” is a chromatic journey featuring alto flute; “Buds Into Flowers” features sweeping, joyous, rich and pure melody on Concert “C”; “Dance of the Redwoods,” an improvisation on bamboo flute, invites listeners deep in the heart of the redwood forest; cascades of notes and rhythms in, “Fireflies” flicker and illuminate the score.

The upbeat track, “Birdsongs,” with a phalanx of flute types and whistles, features harmonics, pitch-slide glissandos, and flutter effects. Based on a blues form, this piece was featured in a series of workshops to benefit the NAfME (‘National Association for Music Education’) in Washington, D.C.
