Album Notes
Jamie recorded her first album "Jamie O’Reilly Sings Irish Songs" at the prestigious WFMT in 1984 with Rich Warren (host of The Midnight Special radio variety show), as engineer. and singer/songwriter Anne Hills as producer. Recorded within one year of Jamie's classical vocal debut at Orchestra Hall, she was in fine voice, and unintimidated by a big city studio. She just loved to sing. Peter Swenson played classical guitar in beautiful arrangements, and they recorded 11 songs, most in one take, in under two hours.

These songs established her vocal style. She was a lyric soprano who sang with a lilt and ease on the high notes. (Music school didn’t teach that, that was in the blood!) In the decade that followed, she sang these songs for many major cultural gatherings in Chicago, on radio and with her family of singers. Jamie can STILL sing those high notes in a whisper. And the low notes with deeper soul! The original recording "Jamie O’Reilly Sings Irish Songs." was released only on cassette. But in 2015, at Jamie's request, WFMT Fine Arts Radio transferred the master to a digital format. "I Know Where I am Going", the new album, has the 11 original songs In tact, and remastered in a clear and pristine way. Two additional songs recorded at WFMT in 2015, are included as well. Michael (The Dutchman) Smith joins Peter Swenson on guitar. Michael's musical setting of a Celtic poem "Young Lad of the Braided Hair", and the folk-favorite "The Butcher Boy" are also heard on the new album.
“You sing: and loud in mine ears
The deeps resound and rejoice;
And my heart, too, sings as it hears
The heart in your voice.”
(Wilfred Wilson Gibson)
