Album Notes
Jana Runnalls is a Pagan singer and Shamanic drummer from England. She has been writing and chanting ‘improvised ritual music’ for twenty-five years and her classic album, “Sacred Home” is a bubbling cauldron of powerful Pagan chants. It has driving Shamanic drum rhythms, strong vocals and stunning harmonies. All the tracks are original numbers, which are now becoming well-known in the global Pagan community.

Jana has been a singer for over 40 years, beginning in the classical world in her teens and then moving into folk, jazz, blues, R&B, reggae and in later years to Pagan chanting. From having lived abroad as a young child, Jana’s love of traveling and learning other languages took her to Paris where she lived for five years and played with musicians from many cultures and walks of life. The influences of Brazilian and African rhythms as well as jazz-scat, can be distinctly heard throughout her music.

Jana’s unique gift as a singer is the astonishing fluency of her vocal sounds – she can improvise and create vivid ‘sound pictures’ with her three-octave voice. This vocal freedom comes from the wide range of musical tastes and influences, which she has accumulated and developed over her life as both performer and teacher. She has been lead singer in a band called ‘Wild Women’ since 1991 in which she has given free rein to her full vocal range.

Jana lives on the magical Isle of Avalon, the ancient sacred site in Glastonbury in the south-west of England - known as the “heart chakra” of the earth - it has inspired her music for the past 15 years. She is a full-time voice and drumming teacher, running workshops all over the world.
