Faint Alarm

by Jane Fontana

Jane performed almost all the parts on this new EP, following no particular school but her own talents and limitations. Embedded are her history, her fantasy, her realization, and her future; a warning, a flourish, a reminder, an echo: Faint Alarm.

Album Notes
Pure flowing grooves that take you over the falls without your knowing. Clear and murky at once, lulling you in to wake you to its answers, whispering questions all the while. Caressing the seam where the rip was mended, telling the adventure of the climb that tore it.

‘Faint Alarm’ is as peaceful and calming as a dream, and as exciting and dangerous as a wish.

You wrote his name a hundred times
All over your arm
There were no lines to read between

That’s not the point; you didn’t know
Points or lines
Or what and all or anything
At fourteen

Mr. Homeroom
Never meant to hurt
Lifting up your shirt
Mr. Homeroom
Staring taking roll
Who could know the toll
It would take on you

He tells you that you’re so mature
You take it in
As if you were right in phase

You let them go you can’t hold on
He came you saw
And now they’re gone, those tender days
You’re heart will act its age

You blocked it out as if it never
Happened at all
You can’t remember what you won’t forget

Deep down inside its faint alarm
Echoes. What’s written
On your arm’s not finished with you yet
Not finished with you

While everyone was dancing, I was trying to dream
I threw my wishes in to catch them all downstream
The music pumping; there was no tired left to sleep
My heart was thumping when the water got too deep

I watched the river rise and turn to change its bed
The path my dreams were on was way over my head
It got so loud it drowned out every other song
So I decided I would try and sing along

I went swimming for it
You danced the river’s chorus
I came up shy, as always
You danced

I caught a shiver; tried to save it in a jar
It suffocated from me trying way too hard
Again, again, again, you’d think I’d never learn
To shiver when I do and give my still a turn

You went reaching for it
I shook the perfect chorus
You came up shy for once now
I dance

Some dreams quick up the darkness; give the night a bump
And wide -awake, I hold your hand, and then, we jump
The objects there were somehow closer than they seem
And we collected everything that flowed downstream

Floating back to land
My wish is your command
Again, you hold my hand and
We dance

Restless sky
Setting sun
On my way
Just begun
Will you wait
Will you wait for me

Scarlett blush
Bruising blue
In a rush
Late for you
Will you wait
Will you wait for me

Time like a wave
Smashes sand
Crashing over me
I'm holding my breath
Until it's gone

Blackest dark
Ageless end
Now for then
Will you wait
Will you wait for me

Time like the night
Bursts with stars
Glowing over me
I'm catching my breath
Waiting for dawn

Blood to rose
Rose to fire
Rising sun
New Desire
I will wait
I will wait for you

He made me sick
He left an icky taste in my mouth
And my mouth was dry
It was a trick
When he’d get liquored-up he would pout
He would pout then smile
And it never felt that bad
And it never felt that good

Hair of the dog that bit me
Gotta get me
Just a sips enough
Hair of the dog that bit me
But it lit me
Yeah, it lit me up

He made me drown
He turned me upside-down in the sea
And the sea was dry
We ran aground
He hit the rocks most purposefully
With no reason why
And I wanted in so bad
And I wanted out for good

He disappeared
Like a cloud contesting the sun
No good-bye
My head had cleared
But the glare had only begun
And my glass was dry
Now I don’t believe the end
So I begin it all again

He made me sick
