Album Notes
Janet Griffin is a singer/songwriter with influences ranging from Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George to Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin. Solo and in various combinations, Janet has been playing for more than 25 years delighting her audiences with her soaring voice and powerful delivery.

Growing up outside of Annapolis, MD, Janet learned to play the guitar at age 13 and immediately began to write original music. She began to play local coffee houses and perform in a variety of theater productions. She joined her first band at the age of 18 and worked for many years fronting a variety of groups from folk, to rock to blues and Motown. Janet also performed for 7 years at the Maryland Renaissance Festival as part of two musical comedy acts, Washbourne and Whare and Full Measure. This setting helped to hone the wit that is part of Janet's stage show.

In 2000, when Janet returned full time to writing and performing her brand of soul-filled acoustic music, her re-entry into the folk world was welcomed by her loyal fans. Since that time, she has performed with Michelle Shocked, David Wilcox, Rod Picott and many others.

In 2003, Janet independently released her first CD "Gabriel". She brought together an amazing array of players such as Jay Turner (bass), Jeff Sarli (slide guitar), and Josh Howell (percussion) along with other local talent. This long-awaited project features songs that have been delighting her fans for years as well as strong new compositions. Some tracks are fun, some are truly breathtaking and all will make you think!

"I have seen Janet perform solo before, and she knows how to keep a crowd's attention. She is a beautifully talented singer/songwriter with a voice that can bring a complex song to a visual understanding of effortless musical indulgence. If you ever go and hear her, which you should, sit and close your eyes and you will understand what I'm saying." Dave Roberts, Music Monthly, Jan 2004, Vol. 21, No.1 Issue #232

"I describe Janet's voice as the "icing on an angel." Mike Zampi, Producer, Owner - The Note Factory Recording Studio

"Janet is a gift to the art of song and her music is a gift to witness." Ka'ren Murchie, artist, musician, workshop leader - Drum Journeys & Livin' in the Rhythm

"...a beautiful voice and the songs are well-crafted, accompanied and recorded. Nice release!" - Larry Berger, Host of the Saturday Light Brigade - WRCT-FM, 88.3 Pittsburgh, PA.

"...Absolutely Terrific!!! Janet really has an incredible voice, with lots of depth and very easy & pleasant to listen to. Absolutely loved the CD!! - Dick Gelfman WJZ-TV

Deep and Rich like Dark Chocolate
Lyrics with plenty of hurt and soul (Gabriel, See the Girl). Janet Griffin sings from the heart and counters these deep (Bold Man), gutsy, bluesy, thunderous tunes (Almight Zeus) with lively stomping fun songs (Mamma Wants to go Out Dancing). This one stays in the player.

excellent, beautiful voice singing touching songs
This is an incredable cd with touching songs. I particullarly like see the girl. Janet does a great job of giving her songs feeling and meaning.

Beautiful Voice, Strong messages in Lyrics, very original sound, strong guitar p
The strongest CD I've heard from a local musician. This is some good stuff. Bold Man and Song about getting married send very strong powerful messages. I feel Janet is better than her surrounding musicians on this Album. They take away something from her. They hold her back. Musically weak point is "Momma's gonna out dancing". Great idea just needs more than strumming a few Dom. 7th chords. Needs more licks. I'm sure however that audience could like the song. It's fun. To sum it up by telling us her influences it only takes away from the originality of her style. She is her own woman on this one. I feel that this CD is only the beginning of her true potential. Who is holding her back. With a voice like that and with her guitar ability she needs a new producer. However I am going to purchase a copy based on the beauty of her Voice, Guitar, and Song writing on this one. I guess I'll tune out the bongos and most other non Janet parts.

This CD is a keeper!
This CD is a keeper! From beginning to end, songs from the heart. It is hard to choose a favorite. I really like Mama's Gonna Go Dancin & What You Gonna Do About it? two fun tunes. Gabriel is a gut wrenching experience, I never hear it without tears. Power of Love is beautiful and gives us all hope. I like them all and love the voice!

Steven Fischer, Emmy-nominated Writer/Producer

Janet Griffin is the Bonnie Raitt of the mid-Atlantic. The songs on Gabriel are soulful, and the clear result of true talent.

A wonderful CD that JUST PLAIN FEELS GOOD!
An excellent combination of all aspects of the emotions. Songs like "See The Girl" really make me think & feel (some things that I prefer not to feel) all the way to "What You Gonna Do About It" that allows me to groove & smile at the same time. The vocal work on "Lock With No Key" is astounding. My hats off to anyone who can sing a cappella like this! All in all, this CD is a trip worth taking, put it on.... sit back... close your eyes & let the music carry you away!

Amazing - Adore One Another brings tears each time I hear it
Amazing voice! This CD stays with the daily-listen-to set while I'm working. All the songs touch the heart, but I can't listen to Adore One Another without a tear slipping down my cheek. Janet has a beautiful voice, with soulful power behind it. I am so grateful to have stumbled across her at a local music festival.
