ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Beneath a Painted Sky” is the latest CD release from Janet McGarry. Janet, who was honored with receiving her Masters in the Female Vocalist of the Year category by the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Association, in addition to several other awards and nominations she has received for her music, still remains perhaps the most recorded solo artist in her genre in Canada. On this new album, her 11th recording, Janet draws on the music of some of her musical heroes from both the bluegrass and country genres.

As with each of Janet’s recordings, this album is woven with themes of love, family, and faith. With fourteen tracks in total, you’ll find a great mixture of songs ranging from traditional bluegrass and gospel written by such artists as Carter Stanley, Wynn Stewart and A.P. Carter, to great country classics “Healing Hands of Time” written by Willie Nelson, “I’ll Come Running”, written by Connie Smith, the always fun song “Applejack” written by Dolly Parton, to the title track “Beneath a Painted Sky”, a poignant song recorded by Tammy Wynette in the late 1980’s. “A Carter Family Song” is an original song penned by Tom T. and Miss Dixie Hall, written to honor all the great music by the Carter Family. Janet is joined by Lorrie Carter-Bennett (grand-daughter of Mother Maybelle Carter) on this song, as well as on the AP Carter song “Gathering Flowers from the Hillside”. Meaghan Blanchard, a gifted singer/songwriter from PEI, graces the album with her beautiful harmony vocals. And, Janet says, “I finally got around to recording “Heart to Heart”, a song written by Emmy Lou Harris and Paul Kennerley, which I’ve sang at wedding ceremonies of some dear friends”.

This album was produced by Serge Bernard, of Diamond Productions PEI. Serge handled much of the instrumentation, and is joined once again by Troy Engle, from Nashville, TN. Troy has been a member of their recording team since their first collaboration back in 2007. Multi-talented J.P. Cormier, from Nova Scotia, also appears, playing clawhammer banjo. New collaborations include Tommy Detamore on steel guitar and Jamie Graves on piano. Bryan Poirier, currently touring in her band “Wildwood” appears on the album, playing autoharp, lead guitar, and bass on select tracks.

Janet keeps busy performing at festivals and events throughout Eastern Canada with her band “Wildwood”. Joined by her husband, Serge, they have teamed up once again with the legendary Eddy Poirier, and his grandson, Bryan Poirier, from Moncton, NB. Together, they bring a special blend of traditional bluegrass music to audiences on the Maritime Bluegrass Festival Circuit plus other engagements throughout.
