So Many Stars

by Janet Metzger

Date night jazz for the twilight hours. Warm expressive vocals backed by a guitar-based quartet are liltingly melodic, strong to the finish and nuanced with the actor's gift of storytelling. Wes Montgomery meets Peggy Lee.

Album Notes
"Listening to Janet Metzger is like listening to a favorite jazz recording...or a good friend. Her friendly charisma seduces you immediately and her throaty voice, witty stories and slightly saucy charm complement her musical abilities." Robin Bennett, The Champion

An actress and singer, Janet brings a uniquely intelligent style to soulful renderings of standards, story songs and swing hits, creating a unique blend of jazz and cabaret. She counts among her many influences Carmen McRae, Judy Garland, Nancy Wilson, Peggy Lee, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra and...Carol Burnett.

Janet was born in Pittsburgh, a hotbed of jazz at the time. As a child, there was always a radio playing in the house (KDKA), and her parents loved to dance, so they bought all the pop hits. On television she watched "The Hit Parade" and "Name That Tune." When other friends were playing with dolls, Janet was playing "Name That Tune." She set up a record player in the back yard and charged the other kids a few pennies to play. That first entrepreneurial effort helped her become a successful independent musician!

Her other great pastime was make-believe, and since 1980 she has made a living in the Atlanta area as an actress on stage, television and radio. For 5 years Janet was the promos announcer on CNN, Headline News and CNN International. Not one to be pigeonholed, Janet appeared on two episodes of Blue Collar TV with the Van Sant Brothers and Travis Tritt, and this summer played Jeff Foxworthy's mother for an episode of Foxworthy's Big Night Out, with Kenny Rogers.

America's "Girl from Ipanema"
Swings so soft and sways so gentle. America's "Girl from Ipanema". Forget who is getting the Grammys and get this.

Her voice is wonderful. The music selections are grand and she does a wonderful rendition on each song, infusing each number with warmth and her own style. I look forward to her next cd.

Absolutely beautiful voice, and the guitar was a perfect complement.
