Album Notes
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, my favorite Christmas song, is widely considered to be one of the greatest Christmas songs of all time. Imagine my surprise when I first learned that lyricist Hugh Martin was born and grew up only three blocks from my own childhood home on the Southside of Birmingham, Alabama, and had walked the same sidewalks as I had! The house where he was born and the Martin cottage where he grew up are both still standing - beautifully restored. I had walked past these houses perhaps thousands of times over the years without realizing that one of my favorite songwriters had lived there.

I was also fascinated to learn that Martin wrote several sets of lyrics to the song, sung by Judy Garland in the film “Meet Me In St. Louis.” Frank Sinatra disliked the line “until then, we’ll have to muddle through somehow” which Martin changed to “hang a shining star upon the highest bow.” This is the most commonly heard version, but I identify more with the original line!

Martin passed away at the age of 96, only a few months before I read his autobiography where I learned about all of this. Thank you, Hugh Martin, for creating this beautiful song and thank you to my fans, family, and friends for listening to my recording.

Credits: Thanks to Jez Graham (piano), Marlon Patton (recording/mixing), and Joel Kerr of G & J Audio (mastering).
Last, but not least, thank you to Dave for your love and support.
