ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jane Zhang regards the cultivation and efforts of her own English songs in these years as a pure self demands, a escape from the comfort circle, a release of curiosity, a full-scale challenge, a desire for growth. She is successful but never unsatisfied. In 2019, She finally had the opportunity to combine sixteen English music works in the past six years into a full-length English album after a series of continuous explorations and attempts. The album name “Past Progressive” is neither the title nor the lyrics from any songs , but a noun in the English grammar. She said that this is not all the English songs that she recorded in the past six years, but it still represents some of her music experience in past six years.

The process of making this album is also the process of constantly learning different things which from the beginning of singing English songs just as a simple imitation of feelings later becomes to express her own taste choice. What makes Jane Zhang most memorable is she returns to the domestic stage and the singing skills of the used Chinese songs while she is learning these new contents which made her struggle with pulling in the new replacing the old . She said that is like having two self , one is herself in the real arena, the other is herself who tries all new things without borders, and switches at different times and times.

This process, which has passed, is like giving a period to the past and seems to be a starting point for the future. Because this album has accompanied her music and life, it has entered the next stage. For Jane Zhang, she feels that what she really has and belongs to her is the process of recording these songs. The bits and pieces in these processes are her current affirmation of her past. Compared to repeating the same work, the process of making this album makes every day more fulfilling, giving herself more enthusiasm, motivation and goals for music. So this time, the sixteen songs you heard were her work and her life. It was her biography of music, and also Past Progressive.
