Album Notes
"57 South to Memphis" was inspired by a huge highway sign on Interstate 94 in the heart of downtown Chicago, telling drivers how to easily get to Memphis, Tennessee - 560 miles down the road from the Windy City. That's like having a gigantic sign in Times Square, telling people where to turn to get to Atlanta! It's crazy! "Kinda Like Fishin'" is a song is a song about four things that I know very little about. It makes me wonder what kind of sarcastic muse thought it would be funny to send such a song to me of all people. But I like the song because of its simplicity and what it never quite comes out and says. Very different for me. "May Not Be Love" is my mother's favorite song of mine, which tells you something about my mother. She always calls it "The Jiggly Nurse Song." Mom, you're the best! "Blue Avenue" is another song that just showed up one day, for no apparent reason. This is a very "different" song for me, and that tickles me. "Dancin' With Daddy" was inspired by our youngest daughter, but it's become a favorite with all of the 'Fathers of Daughters' that I've been able to play for. There's something indescribably magical about being the father of a daughter. Those guys all know! "Nothing Like Falling In Love" is one of the songs that I got to write with the amazing Thom Schuyer. Eddie Rabbitt took it to Billboard magazine's Top Ten Country Singles, got me an ASCAP award for having written one of the year's most performed country songs, and paid for a lot of lovely improvements to our home in Ohio. Thanks, Thom! Much appreciated! "Love In This House" is another song inspired by our daughter Jessica, and it is probably the song that has been performed and covered the most. Having total strangers sing your songs is a pretty amazing gift. Thank you, All! I feel so extremely lucky! "Err on the Side of Love" started out as very good advice from our old friend and band mate, Geoff Greif. It was such perfect advice to us as parents that it stayed with us and eventually turned into this song, which - like "Dancin' With Daddy" - has been performed at a lot of lovely weddings. Thanks, Geoff! "Catch Me If I Fall" is a song that I wrote with old friend and co-writer, Eric Gnezda. This song went through so many changes in its evolution, that for a while I needed charts to perform my own song! Very strange! But now it's settled into a groove that I just can't get enough of. Thanks, Eric! "Everything Is Finite" is one of the great many songs that my beautiful wife Syd has inspired. After years of watching other people who could really dance beautifully together, Syd and I decided that when we come back together in our next life, we are going to learn to dance together really well! The certainty of this decision to return and be together is what spawned this ironically titled song about reincarnation. There you have it, Folks. I hope you enjoy these songs as much as we do. Thank You!!
