Album Notes
Jason DeShaw was born and raised on the prairies of Eastern Montana. He wrote his fist song on a John Deere tractor and made his recording debut on his mother’s answering machine. In the early hours of September 12, 2003 Jason’s dreams were visited by The Man in Black with a simple message: “Never stop singing.” DeShaw answered this calling by performing in 35 states, Canada, and Europe. He intends on bringing his rural country music to the world until he is 99.9 years old, after which he will pursue other adventures.

In 2003, Jason graduated from Carroll College with a B.S. in B.S. and embarked on his musical career. Blessed with a superb voice, Jason began to play sold-out engagements throughout Montana, including an acclaimed concert at the Myrna Loy Center. Having received accolades from the Montana media, he began venturing outside of his home state.

Since 2004, Jason has been on the road entertaining audiences throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He has opened up for Emerson Drive, The Oakridge Boys, and Little Big Town and has headlined two Bio-Diesel tours promoting its environmental benefits.

Jason has found time to record between tours and when asked about the success of his CD sales, he smilingly said, “Well they haven’t gone platinum yet, but they’ve gone aluminum!”

In 2007, Jason moved to Nashville and formed a 5-piece band which performed regularly at the world famous “Tootsies Orchid Lounge.” While all the other acts on Broadway were singing covers, Jason stood out as a guy who could get away with playing original songs. He was honored to perform a 9 day stretch through the CMA Festival entertaining packed audiences with his dynamic show. Since then, Jason has been on the road playing fairs and rodeos throughout the Northwest and Canada. In 2012 he recorded and released his 5th album, "Atmosphere." This album featured Kenny Chesney's steel guitar player and George Strait's fiddler. It has gone on to rave reviews.

It’s all about “Livin’, Lovin’, and Leavin’” as Jason blends traditional country with his own new sound. With a back home feelin’ and natural stage presence, Jason’s music and personality draw in the crowd for a rockin’ good time. Whether country fan or not, you will be amazed by the song and show of Jason DeShaw!

Jason DeShaw releases new album of cool country tunes
Jason DeShaw | Atmosphere
Published: July 2, 2012

Plentywood native Jason DeShaw just released his new album of cool country tunes with that distinctive and fluid baritone voice running the show.

CD liner notes say he was visited in a dream by Johnny Cash on Sept. 12, 2003, who told him, "Never stop singing." That's the date Cash died. DeShaw took the advice to heart and has since performed in 35 states, Canada and Europe.

Backed by peerless Helena stalwarts Michael Kakuk, Jeremy Slead, and Mike Killeen, among others, he makes his way through 12 tunes on his new recording, some of his own making.

The total good-ol’ boy package is well-represented on the first piece, the uptempo “Jason Dixon Line.” DeShaw sings of his Chevy truck, a six-pack, gun rack and more, cheerily rhyming "country" with “Montgomery."

"New Day" sports cookin' Slead on drums and DeShaw's hopeful message. DeShaw's an avenger fighting evil in "Man on a Mission," a rock-steady country-rocker, if there is such a thing; DeShaw channels the Man in Black with Cash-like gravel and anger in his voice.

Ambience definitely propels the pretty title tune, "Atmosphere," a sad song with layers of sound.

Stuck in the "fiction of love" our protagonist is, on a lovely slow waltz, "Waiting on Love." Gene Elders's fiddle soaks the shuffle, "The Hippie in You (I love the cowboy too)." It is humorous and spot-on, with Jim Gairett's sweet steel guitar adding to the great licks.

Two numbers bring back the memory of Judy Garland: the "we're not in Kansas anymore" sensibility of the pretty ballad, "Tin Man Blues”; and the final cut, aptly titled "Under the Rainbow" ("back when the blues were green, red didn't seem so mean, and yellow fit right between").

DeShaw has great backing on this project, terrific production, and the resiliency to carry all the tunes without any other vocal backup – no mean feat. He says he is fully committed to sharing his great sound with the world till he's "99.9 years old." Let's hope that's true!
