Album Notes
A Texas native turned New Yorker, Jay Brannan is an authentic, solo singer/songwriter who loves to sing, loves to travel, and writes from the heart. He has been playing his sweet & sad folk songs—tempered with a healthy dose of humor—all around the globe since 2006.

He also appeared as an actor in John Cameron Mitchell’s indie film sensation Shortbus, in which his song “Soda Shop” was the highest selling song on the film’s soundtrack album (released by Bright Eyes’ Team Love Records).

Brannan has released a string of albums, all of which topped the iTunes Singer/Songwriter & Billboard Heatseekers charts: goddamned, produced by Will Golden (Meiko, Michelle Branch); In Living Cover, a collection of 2 originals & 7 covers, recorded from a bedroom in his friend Drew Brody’s Brooklyn apartment; Rob Me Blind, produced by the legendary David Kahne (Regina Spektor, The Bangles, Paul McCartney, etc.); Around the World in 80 Jays, a collection of 9 international cover songs spanning 6 different languages; and Always, Then, & Now, his latest full-length album of originals.

Brannan’s touring has taken him multiple times around the world, throughout the USA, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, Greece, Brazil, South Africa, Israel, and Australia. He returns to the road (and sky) this year to perform new songs, as well as old favorites, in what he has informally dubbed the "OK, Seriously This is The Last Tour" Tour.

Despite continued vows to retire, "New York, New York" is Jay's latest musical release -- a 5 song EP, available Summer 2016.

Another slice of Perfect
It is always a treat when Jay treats us with one of his impromptu concerts from his apartment, uploads a new video clip, and best yet releases an album/EP. This is no exception (though perhaps for the brevity). Some very nice multi-layered vocal work here, particularly on Imperfect Lover. I particularly remember New York, New York & Desert Rose from his last live performance in Dallas, so they were nice to hear in more fleshed versions; New York with some good trumpet work and Desert Work with trumpet & string quartet. The EP wraps up with J.J. The Baker, which makes me (and I'm sure many others) wish that Jay was more able to sustain himself as a full-time musician, he certainly has the talent and skill. I think perhaps the song is an ode to Raymond Carver's short story 'A Small Good Thing', which I'd recommend reading.

Way too short, but I will take all that I can get. I'm certainly looking forward to adding these tracks to my playlists, and hearing them again when I get a chance to see Jay Brannan on his 2016 Summer tour in a few weeks.
