Album Notes
Spirituals have been the foundation of my classical repertoire. They have helped me to understand and touch the deep colors of my soul as it relates to the Eternal Sovereign God.

No other repertoire has birthed a more courageous spirit in me, lifting me as I walk with assurance through dark places. I am indebted to those "Beautiful Africans" who refused to be broken, who through g ret travail, found the spiritual umbilical cord that connects one directly the Almghty Throne of God.

Therefore, it is an honor and a privilege to continue the great tradition of singing the Negro Spiritual with some of the most beautiful arrangements you will ever hear. Evelyn Simpson-Curenton is a treasure, her arrangements are truly heavenly. Enjoy!

In Addition to becoming one of America's foremost Classical
sopranos, Janice Chandler Eteme brings great personal conviction to Spiritual/Gospel music. She has recorded
"Soulful Messiah" (produced by Quincy Jones) and "Angels on High" (Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony), Ms. Chandler Eteme has recorded the Dvorak "Te Deum" with New Jersey Symphony, the Brahms Requiem with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Monteverdi 1610 Vespers with the Boston Baroque Chamber Orchestra.

Her most recent collaboration is with the premier Gospel Artist and Composer, Richard Smallwood on his egerly anticipated "Journey Live in New York".

A special gift
It is always amazing when paths cross when you least expect them to. I first heard of Janice Chandler (Eteme)in high school through my mentor who was a big Robert Shaw fanatic. Years later, at Shenandoah, my choral lit. teacher Robert Shafer used the Jessop recording of the Brahms Requiem in class. I thought to myself in that moment "To God Be the Glory."

This recording is beautiful. The one track that really moved me to worship was Come Unto Him. This disc is a must!
