Sleep Therapy

by JC Poppe

In 2009 rap music has continued to lose it's way with the further watering down of it's lyrics and a formulaic presentation of thugged out/sexed up artists. This artist/album revolts against the nonsensical pop rap music that fills the airwaves today.

Album Notes
Sleep Therapy is the first full length album from Milwaukee native JC Poppe, an artist who has been a dedicated fan of hip-hop since the age of 5. On this first effort, Poppe set out to clearly distinguish himself as an artist that is not another person who is going to follow the current trends within rap music. He pairs an aggressive approach with sample heavy beats to create a soundscape that makes one reminisce of the early and mid 1990s. His song's topics range from a social critique on the trappings of the current sexual education programs used, to the calling out of the newest trend within rap music, the mixtape artist. Poppe also finds himself paired with national artists on several tracks (Guilty Simpson, Naledge of Kidz in the Hall, and 88-Keys), proving that he can rap with the best of them, while showing respect to those who have paved the road ahead of him. If you are looking for music that is straight-forward, lyrical, and has fantastic production, then Sleep Therapy is the album for you.
