Album Notes
Jean McGowan lives and sings in Portland, Oregon. A city she says she'll never leave. She composed the 9 songs on her CD "Itch" (as in the seven year itch) after the birth of her second child when her sense of identity was completely in question. The balance of being a woman, a wife, a mother, a lover is the struggle she addresses in her songs. The fights, the love, the fatigue, the desire to escape, the desire to stay.

An award winning political columnist before her babies came she now mainly focuses on music and writing and being a mom. She has just finished her first screenplay - the movie version of her album "Itch."

an astonishingly brave beginning...
Jean Mcgowan's new album is an astonishingly brave beginning. This has immediately become one of my all time favorite albums. It is complex, unique, filled with poetry, raw emotion and heart. The album unfolds like a book, and you can tell that she did not write the album to appeal to the masses, but rather to tell her story, and that is what makes it so special, and in the end that is what will appeal to everyone. Each time you listen you come away with something different, like a favorite book you want to read again and again...

These are my kind of housewife blues! Jean McGowan's voice is gorgeous reminiscent of Margo Timmins from the Cowboy Junkies. I'm loving this CD and have been playing it non-stop. I hope to hear more from her soon.

I love this album! The songs are beautifully arranged and the vocals are gorgeous- a plaintive, fully-voiced expression of the rocky territory of love and marriage. Jean McGowan's style ranges from hard blues to simple ballads, and her songwriting pairs sweetness and strength to excellent effect. Check out "Father's Child"- an unforgettable song!

Awesome! It is evident that heart & soul went into this album. The songs reflect real life experiences with the artist's basic roots of New England shining through. Beautifully arranged! This is an album people can relate to. Jean McGowan has superb vocal and songwriting talent that make the album a QUALITY first album! I can't wait for the next one......

The swan song of mothers everywhere...
With rhythms as familiar and comforting as coffee and a cigarette, you may be happy to pop in "Itch" and let it serve well as the background music to your life...And yet so poignantly crafted is McGowan's message, so woefully unique to all housewives, that "Itch" will beg - demand even - that you listen to every word. McGowan's "Itch " is not only her shining debut, but my friends, it is the swan song of mothers everywhere.

This album is wicked awesome and we are wicked proud of her.

Original, soulful and full of life.
This cd gives new meaning to the trials and tribulations of raising a family and being in a marriage.
It is sung from the heart and the lyrics are thoughtful and thought provoking. I see this artist going far with her songwriting and voice. Let's hear more!
