Album Notes
Genius Loci Mixtape is a collection of songs instantly composed during recording sessions with improvising jazz musicians all over the world. Many are inspired by the genius loci, the spirits of place, in each of these cities. Others are invented around poems collected while travelling or dreams. The songs are melodic and straddle genres, like ancestral folk songs that morph into stream of consciousness free jazz or vice versa.

This is the first collection of the many songs invented over the past several years in evocative places such as the cellar of an ancient building in Paris (Ardeche), a raucous music festival next to burial caves in Sulawesi (Coyote), an artist’s studio filled with paintings in Barcelona (Keys, Gaudi), or a studio in the snow in Montreal (Gypsy Nun,). The poetry includes Lorca in translation, a Catalan love poem and more.

The musicians performing with Jeannette include Michel Lambert, drums and percussion, Reg Schwager, guitar, Barre Phillips, bass, Glenn Ferris, trombone, Greg Burk, piano, François Théberge, tenor saxophone, Alexandre Grogg, piano and harpischord, Fendy Rizk, bass, Bona Alit, percussion, Davide Barbarino, saxophone, Julien Osty, guitar and Laurent Charles, saxophone. Jeannette sang on all the tracks, added a few bass lines, and edited and produced the mixtape. Sequenced by Jerome Lambert. Cover art by Michel Lambert from his visual scores for Ars Transmutatoria (in production).
