ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Jeff Dingler is a bassist and composer living in New York City with a diverse set of influences and musical interests. Jeff draws inspiration from Bill Evans, bassist Red Mitchell, world music from Africa and India, as well as impressionist composers such as Debussy and Ravel. His approach to playing bass is unique, in that he often explores the lyrical side of the instrument when soloing.
Taking Root attempts to blend all these influences with a fresh compositional and ensemble concept that focuses on exploring deeply varying textures and colors, singing melodies, subtle manipulations of form, and rhythms that stem from around the globe. The album title Taking Root is indicative of both the sound of the record and the intent behind it. Many of the compositions look to invoke the beauty of something from the natural world. Also, as Jeff's debut record as a leader, it serves as a foundation to take root and continue growing creatively over time.
The band featured on Taking Root consists of Brad Shepik on guitar, KyuMin Shim on piano, Gusten Rudolph on drums, and Rich Perry on tenor saxophone. Each musician contributes unique and creative energy into every note they play, making each composition sound as if it were their own.
