ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
HISTORY
Jeff Fraser
I was born on April 5, 1971 in Danvers, Massachussetts.

I grew up in the small town of Essex, Ma and I've been here ever since.

I got into music at a young age. when I was 5 years old I had a toy piano and my mother noticed that I could play simple melodies by ear on it. She then decided to get me a real piano on my next birthday. I started taking piano lessons and went for a few years, but lost interest for a little while.

When I was 12, my friend let me hear his Van Halen tape. I heard "Eruption" and I knew I wanted to play guitar. I begged for a guitar that following Christmas and there it was...

Me and my first guitar...

I started taking guitar lessons shortly and was really into it. The first song I learned was "Sunday Bloody Sunday" by U2. I took lessons from a few different teachers over the Years. It got to the point where I was practicing 8 hours a day.

My first gig was at my High school talent show. I think we played some Motley Crue song or something.

Jeff at first High school talent show... (I attended a Berklee College of Music summer program in the summer of 1987 and in 1990 went to Berklee full time. I learned a lot but living in the city was not my cup of tea. The third semester I decided to commute. That was not a pleasant experience. I dropped out after completing only 3 semesters, but I don't regret going a bit.)

After that I tried and tried to start bands but could never find someone who could sing. I said, "the hell with it, I'll sing." I started taking vocal lessons at age 16. I really sucked at the beginning (I have tapes to prove it) but I didn't give up.

Right after Graduation in 1989 my friend and next door neighbor Rich Figurido and I decided to form a band. We found a couple guys from Malden by word of mouth, and we started Slyboyz.
It took about a year of practicing until we played our first gig.

After winning a couple "Battle of the bands" contests, beating over 100 other bands, Slyboyz put out it's first album "Slyboyz I" in 1991. In January of 1992, Slyboyz went on a short tour from Boston to Texas and back. We stopped in places like Memphis, MS, Dallas, Houston, Austin, and others.

Slyboyz leaving for tour...Jan. 1992

The worst part about the trip was that I got a terrible cold and totally lost my voice. We cancelled one show and I hacked my way through the rest.

After we did the tour we put out a couple more albums. The Slyboyz album "What Comes After 2?" sold well over 5,000 copies nationwide due to our national ad campaign. We Placed full page ads in a couple big magazines and the rewards were fantastic. I got 30 letters a day, I still get them now and again.

Slyboyz broke up in 1994.

I looked around for a while and saw an ad in the Boston Phoenix for a singer so I checked it out. It ended up working out in time and I'm still in that band now. The band is Pigpen.

Brandon Lepere called me in August of 1998 because he knew of me through Slyboyz. Me and Julio formed shortly after...

Brilliant!
Jeff Fraser hits a homerun with this cd. Brilliantly written songs performed with emotion and vigor. Jeff has a magnificent rock voice, and his partners in crime on the disc lend fantastic background vocals that stand out without stealing the show. I absolutely love this disc, and I hope there's another one on the way soon!
