Album Notes
Jeff Presslaff is a composer, arranger, pianist and trombonist who has resided in Winnipeg since 1997. Before that, he had an extensive career in and around the jazz scene in New York, where he performed with many notable masters, including Benny Carter, Ed Blackwell, Roswell Rudd and George Garzone. Since coming to Winnipeg, he has been a driving force in the Western Canadian music world as a player and composer, having written for many top artists and ensembles including the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Papa Mambo, and several college ensembles. His music has been played by Terrence Blanchard, P.J. Perry, Denzal Sinclair, Andrea Brachfeld, Prudence Johnson, Jimmy Greene and many other great artists. Collective Unconsciousness represents his first recorded efforts, and commemorates his long and fruitful collaboration and friendship with Cornelius Bumpus, the late saxophonist and vocalist, well-known to many for his work with Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers. The album also features inventive bassist/performance artist, Wilbo Wright (UI, Yo La Tengo), and longtime colleagues Pat Wristen and Ferdi Serim.
