ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

"...plays gigs across the United States, performing family-friendly ‘adult alternative’ music
that includes a variety of musical dynamics – mixing elements of rock, pop, and country
with references to Americana and jazz music.”
~ Bayou Jam Concert Series
Slidell, Louisiana

"This pop-rock genre band from Toledo will surprise with their knack for crafting pop hooks, funky rhythms,
hard-edged modern rock opuses, country gems and a little blues-jazz for good measure!"
~ Pavilion On Court Concert Series
Gaylord, MI

I began what grew into a music career as a kid in New Orleans. It's safe to say that if I had first explored a music career in just about any city other than New Orleans, I probably would have spent my life doing something entirely different for a living. By exposing me to all sorts of working musicians and songwriters who demonstrated both professionalism and virtuosity, but were far from household names, New Orleans taught me the difference between a 'professional musician' and a 'rock star'.

I'm as proud of "Rock & Roll Soul" as anything I've accomplished in my career, and I'm pleased to introduce the album to you:

ROCK & ROLL SOUL
About a life of music…

BOX ON THE WALL*
A rock song, written after a tour of Paisley Park. Features great guitar work from Brother Jason Quick, and the fantastic team of Mike Bailey & Kirk Eberhard are absolutely brilliant. RIP, Prince Rogers Nelson.

OH, CONDOLEEZZA
A tribute to a competitive figure skater, world-class concert pianist, classmate of the Birmingham bombing victims of 1963…and former Secretary of State.

BLOOD*
A ballad that addresses sins of the past. “You can only tell a brother by the color of his blood.”

NOBODY'S BUSINESS
A jazz shuffle that serves as an updated homage to the traditional “t’ain’t Nobody’s Business”. Josh Silver's piano work alone is worth the price of admission.

RIP BILLY LEA
A two-step country song that offers forgiveness and reconciliation to a low-down scoundrel who doesn’t even deserve it. There's a beautiful Josh Silver piano break and superb vocals by the Oak Ridge Boys Gone With the Wind Mens Choir, featuring Brad Burkhart, Brad Burkhart, Brad Burkhart, and a special appearance by Brickyard Brad.

TEXARKANA STARS
A “bucket list” song .Features wonderful violin by Bill Thomas. I promised myself I would write a song called “Texarkana Stars” when I was 18 years old - traveling overnight from Northwest Louisiana back home to New Orleans after my first quarter of college at Louisiana Tech. The Texarkana sky took my breath away that night. It’s a country/Americana tune.

YOU SAVED MY LIFE
My big brother, Dave, raised me from the time I was twelve until I graduated high school. During that time, we moved to New Orleans, and that’s where we grew up…together. This song is a “thank you” to my big brother.

WOODPILE CAT
Buffy the Mouse Slayer was the Woodpile Cat. This is a fun, kinda biographical, blues tune. Buffy wrote the first verse, I wrote the second verse, and we collaborated on the bridge.
