ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Heartbeat" is an eclectic music concept that will take you, without a commercialized compromise, on an intricate, soulful journey from New York to the Balkans and back. Jelena’s writing, arrangements and vocal delivery are expressive of her strong connection to the jazz genre. Throughout the album her lyrics reveal her passionate character, expressing her profound feelings on topics that encompass love in general: freedom, universe, children, humanity and music. Ms. Jovovic is placing herself with this album as one of the most prominent jazz vocalist coming from Europe having a familiar yet distinctive sound.
The music on Heartbeat is placed between post-bop and fusion with the strong connection of the material in the acoustic ambiance and overall swing and groove. Traditional American jazz sounds cleverly immersed with the Balkan melodic motifs are what make this album uniquely heartfelt, tasteful and tremendously captivating.

About ''Heartbeat'':

Randy Brecker
‘’ Well, all I can say is "This is some HIP Shit"! The singing, scatting, playing, compositions, lyrics, and charts are great and so inventive! Really up to date too! Congrats! Enjoyed the more 'intimate' songs/tracks too. Loved it!!! ’’

Patric Forge
‘’ I’m impressed with Jelena’s Heartbeat. She's great and the whole thing sounds good. The supporting casts are on point! At times she really reminds me of Sarah Vaughn.... And I don't think there are many singers out there who get anywhere close to that. She's got a fabulous tone, and she phrases sweetly with plenty of push and pull with the pulse of the music.’

‘’ …Jelena’s songs have a good chance to become standards with time. She is presenting to us her vocal splendor with easiness ...’’
Concerto magazine, 2019
‘’… Summa sum- arum, ‘’Heartbeat’’ is a great starting point for Jelena, showcasing her as a contemporary jazz vocalist with a light touch of Reeves and Bridgewater at times…’’
Politika, 2019
