8 Days Down

Album Notes
City Canyons Records, an independent label based in New York City, proudly announces the release of Jen Elliott and Bluestruck's long awaited full length sophomore album, 8 DAYS DOWN.

8 DAYS DOWN is a soulful album with roots firmly grounded in the best rock traditions but seasoned by a sometimes edgy, very contemporary alternative sound and a spicy spoonful of wicked gospel and funk. Jen brings it all home with a powerful alto voice, hip phrasing, and a seductive energy, ably supported by her remarkable backing band, Bluestruck.

Jen was raised on church music as a child and she still writes and sings straight from her soul--but now, it's rock 'n' roll that is her first love. Born in Texas and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, she now calls New York City her home. In 2003,she had the opportunity to sign with City Canyons Records. A few short months later, the label released her debut album THE SECRET'S OUT. The album received Top 30 college radio airplay and critical acclaim by the press nationally and internationally.

Jen has been featured in issues of Entertainment Today, The Downtown Express, The Sun Herald, Inside Connection and Keyboard Magazine. To date, the band has performed at the Black Potatoe Festival 2005, NY Auto Show 2005, GoGirls Elite Showcase 2004, headlined at the Global Entertainment & Media Summits 2003/2004, and performed at MEANY Fest well as performing at venues in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut. Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida. Jen and Bluestruck have also opened for the likes of Nils Lofgren, The Little River Band, and Nine Days. Her EP, "this damn song," was released by City Canyons Records on April 4th 2006 as a prequel to 8 DAYS DOWN.

Jen will be touring the East Coast from New England to Florida from October 2006 into the spring of 2007 in support of 8 DAYS DOWN, supported by a full press and radio campaign.

Good stuff!
It's a strong sophomore release Jen Elliott & Bluestruck have released in the form of their "8 Days Down" album. The definite highlight of this album is the voice of Jen Elliott, but the backing band, Bluestruck, isn't to be overlooked either as they bring forth a nice mix of rock, blues, funk and more with a retro-based feeling. My favorite track is "You Are So Cruel" that features jazzy trumpets and rap-vocals alongside Jen's powerful voice. Good stuff.

Soulful and bluesy--spitting image of rootsy Chrissie Hynde!
Few rock singers -- male or female -- sound both soulful and bluesy circa the early 21st century. Jen Elliott manages to buck the trend on her sophomore release, 2006's "8 Days Down"....Although both musically and vocally it's easy to immediately assume that both the Rolling Stones and Bonnie Raitt serve as major influences, upon closer inspection, Elliott's singing is at times the spitting image of Chrissie Hynde (especially in her phrasing). Picture Hynde fronting a more rootsy version of the Pretenders, and it's not a far cry from such standouts as "Captivity" and "Full"

No one sounds like Elliott!
From a New York scene that sports all kinds of musical origination, no one sounds like Elliott. She’s forged her own version of Blues Rock that is unlike any typical blues rock you have ever heard. Get your hands on the CD and find out what we are talking about.

Dylann DeAnna, Blues Critic

Jen Elliott Rocks!
"Jen Elliott rocks" declared the one sheet that came with her previous EP ("This Damn Song") and indeed she does. The full length "8 Days Down"beefs the set up to eleven cuts. Tough female rockers have had a long currency in the modern era. There's a lot of wannabe women (remember Shannon Curfman for example?) but methinks Elliott's unique enough to standout. Her alto voice and disparate phrasing power the crunchy "Crazy" with Bluestruck nailing down the rhythm. Better is the melodic "Full", which is ripe for college radio. Imagine a cooler version of Tori Amos without that self-indulgent bleating. But the standout cut is the driving "Bringing Me Down", featuring Santana-like guitar and a potent Annie Lennox-styled vocal by Elliott. Despite not being a Blues song it reached #5 on's Blues chart.

Full of seductive energy, catchy lyrics!
Jen Elliott is a soulful, charismatic woman with a rocking alto voice! Full of seductive energy, catchy lyrics and backed by her own accomplished band, Bluestruck. 8 DAYS DOWN is a bluesy alternative rock album with just the right spoonful of spicy roots rock with wicked gospel and funk undertones.

The Garage

The personification of the rock'n'roll spirit in a female body!
Jen Elliott has that epic rock and roll goddess quality of all the greats: Pat Benetar, Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, Patti Smith. The best way to describe this quality is: it is the personification of the rock'n'roll spirit in a female body.
Most of us music lovers have memories of moments when rock'n'roll saved us. Maybe we're driving down the road after a particularly difficult experience. And a song like "8 Days Down" comes on the radio. And we roll down our windows, crank up the volume and accelerate that old two-door Ford, imagining the wind and the music will purge us of our cares. Ah.
I love rock and roll....Come out and free your soul.

A terrific achievement!
Jen Elliott is an independent singer from America who has released this album, 8 DAYS DOWN, on the New York based City Canyons record label. She has been an energetic performer on the US indie/college scene and delivers her blues rock with passion and charisma. Jen likes to give something edgier and spicier then your average female rocker and this set of tracks demonstrates her ability to pull listeners. With her talented backing band, Bluestruck, she is sure to give value for money at her live shows. This album is a terrific achievement for her.

Jen's the real deal. This woman LOVES to Rock and Roll!! Blew me away!

Ricky Flake--South Mississippi Sun Herald

A talent to be reckoned with!
Jen Elliott and Bluestruck's long awaited sophomore album is a mature recording, with new elements like mournful fiddle and heavier guitars, and there's a winning songwriting collaboration between Jen and bassist Anne Husick.
Elliot's sultry alto voice sets her apart, and my favorite songs, like "Captivity," "Stand" (with its provocative imagery) and the jangly "Garden of Delight," show that Jen is a talent to be reckoned with.

Joanne Cohen-Schenker, Blogcritics Magazine

Compelling and soulful!
We should have known with Jen Elliott’s debut album title, Secret’s Out, that she would be a stunning surprise to the music scene. Now with her sophomore release, 8 Days Down, Jen’s artistry is even more compelling, soulful and downright slick … as in Grace Slick. To fully appreciate Jen Elliott, you have to imagine the musical composition of Grace Slick seasoned with a powerful alto voice similar to Chrissy Hynde's..... “Garden Of Delight” is a beautiful example of just that…a bluesy ballad that wavers between a '60s throwback and '80s new wave nostalgia.... In “Stand,” Elliott — like Grace — praises the female role in modern music as well as modern love with its lyrics, “I will stand in the sunlight naked with my soul stretched across the sky … I am beautiful in my honesty and I’m living my own life.” Long after the song has ended I can still feel the weight of her words. Tinges of gospel, the church music instilled in Elliott’s childhood, reappear in remarkable rock n’soul semblances such as ...“Captivity.” The Pretenders come to mind on “Try To Forget” and “Full” — the difference being country/folk has now replaced post-punk... All in all, Jen Elliott is a poetic siren with a panoramic sound window that ranges from fiery to finesse.
