Album Notes
A note from producer, Michael Daves: "Jen has one of the best bluegrass voices you'll hear these days. I've felt since the first time I heard her sing that she's got something really special that world needs. It bothers me that more people haven't had the opportunity to hear her do her thing. So with this recording it's my intention to showcase the power of her voice, both inside the bluegrass tradition and just a little bit out, so people can know what the music is all about, and what Jen is about. So please join in and help us share Jen's amazing sound with the world."

A note from Jen Larson: My goal here was to make an old-school style recording with some of the best musicians in the NYC bluegrass scene, in one of the most acoustically beautiful spaces in Brooklyn, the Upper Hall of Old First Reformed Church. The period from the end of WWII until the dominant rise of Rock and Roll was a golden age for bluegrass, country, and honky-tonk musicians - including many of my musical idols - Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Wilma Lee Cooper, Hazel Dickens, Carter Stanley, Larry Sparks, Del McCoury... I could go on. And you'll see their influence in the mix of older tunes and originals on this album.

But the mixture of old and new goes deeper than just song selection. It extends to every aspect of the recording. My producer, Michael Daves is a great friend and an enormously talented guitarist and vocalist. You may know him from his Grammy-nominated work with Chris Thile; he also has worked with Tony Trischka, Noam Pikelny and many others. But you may not know that he has a deep knowledge of the recording practices that make those vinyl records from the '50s and '60s so compelling. Using vintage microphones and analog recorders, we've created something new, that still reflects our love of a golden age of bluegrass. I hope you enjoy it!

Bluegrass Greats Join In to Support a Great Songstress!
I've watched Jen Larson grow as a bluegrass singer and songwriter along with the thriving bluegrass scene in New York City. Everyone around here has been waiting for this EP - pairing the region's strongest bluegrass vocalist with legends like Andy Statman; Punch Brothers, Chris Eldridge, Noam Pikelny, and Paul Kowert; guitarist/producer, Michael Daves; and plenty of others. Great stuff.
