Album Notes

There are many wonderful facets to Jenn Adams music: versatile vocals, accomplished guitar playing, a level of sophistication that is missing from the masses, but there is one part of her music that speaks so loudly it's impossible to ignore: quality songwriting. In the Pool is a prime example.
This album makes smooth transitions through a number of genres. But after listening to Jenn's music, you start to wonder, "Who needs genres anyway?" Call it folk, blues, jazz - let's just call it what it is: fantastic music.
Adams is assisted by a number of talented artists on this album. There's Steve Conn playing the Hammond B3 to Rod McGaha's trumpet and everything in between. They are tastefully incorporated adding a shine to Adams already well written material. Compiled mostly of originals, In the Pool also features a few great covers. The moods evoked from song to song range from ambient primal sounds inspired by a turbulent country, to the simple, sweet elegance of a woman in her garden. Adams clearly possesses a rare ability to lay down a story. She channels the essence of being human and keenly presents it. Her unforced lyrics and impressive chops add a weight to her tunes that's hard to match. After hearing one of her songs, you get that same feeling of having just read a good book. This album contains both diversity and consistency that provides a settled comfort. In the Pool makes you feel at home.

Jenn Adams is an award winning, nationally acclaimed, touring singer songwriter with one of today's most original sounds. Succesfully carring on the story-telling tradition of 60's folk rock, Jenn twists the corners of folk, blues and jazz into immediatly personal and inviting songs. Fiercely talented, elegantly skewed, Adams establishes an inspirational, thought-provoking sound that's clearly her own.
She has been a Rocky Mountain Folks Festival finalist, a winner in the KRCL Utah Songwriters Contest and was named one of the"Best Unsinged Artist" of the year by folk radio powerhouse, Rob Reinhart of Acoustic Cafe. Both her debut CD, Water, and Latest release, In the Pool, have been released by Europe's foremost specialiest of Root's, Folk and Blues music, Taxim Records.

"If you haven't seen Adams play, you're missing one of lifes greatest pleasures, from the first note of the opening song, she has you hanging on her every word."
- Greg Tressel, Rogue Theatre Productions

"Lots of artists attempt to fashion a thoughtful blend of folk, blues and jazz, but few do it better than Jenn Adams...Writes passionate songs that brim with confidence, elegance and restraint. Centered on her own acoustic guitar, the arrangements on In The Pool are then colored with splashes of accordion, harmonica and horns, along with electric guitar, bass and drums. Showcases the subtle power of her singing...but it's Adams' original songs that make her an artist to watch."

Love love love her voice
This cd is one of my favorites. In fact I have worn my first one out, so I'm back to order another. Cheers to Jenn for her songwriting, her vocals, and the overall quality of everything she creates. As a vocalist myself, I look for other vocalists to study and reference in my work, and Jenn is one of these. And as a radio host, I pick music to feature that is unique and special. This cd is one that I always come back to.

Smart, sassy, sensational!
I picked up "In the Pool" after a house concert in Rockville, Maryland, in which Jenn was the opening act. Just Jenn and a guitar, and she was pretty good but didn't blow me away. Well, "In the Pool" sure did. She's assembled a fine supporting cast of musicians and every song, one after the another, is smartly written and soulfully sung. It is one of the best CDs I've ever heard from a folk-type artist, more of a softer version of Bonnie Raitt's roots-blues than a just a pretty voice with an acoustic guitar. Jenn, come back to the D.C. area!
