ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The album entitled "Songbird" by Jenna Herbst, is the culmination of a project she called The Songbird Challenge. Jenna, a folk artist and fiddle player, challenged herself to write and record one song per week for eight weeks, and sent the song each week, un-mixed and un-mastered, to the email fans of her band, The Juniper Trees. At the end of eight weeks, she gave the eight tracks to Mark Raynes, who mixed and mastered each, and the end result is this album "Songbird." Added to the eight songs from the challenge are one additional track that Jenna recorded previously, and a rendition of Joy of Man's Desiring by Bach, and poet Robert Bridges. Jenna has continued her Songbird Challenge, because of her love of sharing the ancient art of songwriting. Download this beautiful collection of songs today!

“With supple grace and all the lazy magic of a rock skipping across water…Singer – guitar ist – violinist Jenna Herbst…manages to sound like no one but herself…” ….Jason Heller, The A.V. Club.

“(Jenna) Herbst is simply a luminous talent — a concise player whose elastic vocal style recalls Kate Bush, a more melodic Kristin Hersh and the elusive sirens of all those Greek myths. And though Herbst occupied a large portion of the spotlight at last week’s show, the band’s wisely understated, harmonic arrangements were a simple, sensual and sensory treat. “ ….. Laura Bond, Westword Magazine.

“Herbst’s giddy vocal acrobatics readily draw comparisons to Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins, and the largely acoustic music owes much to that gently textured 4AD feel.” …The Onion.

About the Songbird CD: “i have not heard the entire record, but the few songs i was sent, i am definitely digging. she’s got a lovely voice…lyrically she’s very solid and her musicianship is simple yet effective. less is more in this case, let the voice and lyrics paint the picture. really look forward to hearing the entire record. definitely recommended…”…www.captainsdead.com
