About "Permission to be Broken"...
When things stay relatively the same for a measure of time, it's really easy to get lulled into a sense of comfort. Of confidence, and strength. It's a good feeling, especially for those of us who are so fond of being self-sufficient. You can go on like that for years if you're not careful.
I know. I did.
Then all of a sudden, things change, whether by choice or otherwise. The patterns of behaviour that worked so well for so long fail, and you come face to face with the reality of your weakness.
I know. I did.
It's not easy learning that you're not who you thought you were. It's not easy coming to terms with your own fallibility, especially when you had gone to such lengths to hide it.
But the thing is, you can't start healing until you recognize that you're broken. You can't repent until you realize you've made a mistake. And you can't move on until you decide that it's time to let go.
These songs are the before, the middle, and the after. They're the moments of clarity and the months of confusion. They're the really good bits... and the pain it took to get there.
Make them your own. Add your voice to the choir. On days when it's hard to be honest, let's sing together and give one another permission to be broken.
