ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This 28-track audio book teaches pronunciation of all the Old Norse and runic readings from lessons 9-15 of Viking Language 1: Learn Old Norse, Runes, and Icelandic Sagas (website: vikinglanguage.com). The audio passages coordinate with the grammar and vocabulary of the lessons in Viking Language 1. They tell of Vikings, Iceland, and old Scandinavia and are an indispensable resource for learning vocabulary, comprehension, and the flow of language. Sentences in the audio are divided into phrases. The method speeds learning and allows self-correction. --- The listener can stop the audio at any point to repeat words and phrases. --- The audio follows modern Icelandic usage. For the work of learning one language, the learner acquires the fundamentals of two closely related languages, Old Norse and Modern Icelandic. --- Reading passages are drawn from Icelandic Family Sagas (Íslendingasögur), the Prose Edda (Snorra Edda), and Kings’ Sagas (Konungasögur). They recount original stories of Scandinavian gods, myths, and heroes as well as ordinary men and women of the Viking Age. There are stories of swords, burials, and sacrifice. Other passages are drawn from The Book of Settlements (Landnámmabók) and runic inscriptions memorializing the dead. --- The Viking Language Series is designed by Jesse Byock, professor of Old Norse and Viking Archaeology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The audio lessons for the Viking Language Series were recorded at Skonrokk Studios in Iceland by Sigurdór Guðmundsson. For further information see vikinglanguage.com
