Album Notes
Walkright Records is proud to announce its latest release; John Earl Walker Live In Germany

All songs are J.E. Walker originals, and both the sound quality and the performances are awesome!

Fans have long been demanding a live CD from John Earl Walker and now they have one! This was John Earl Walker's first appearance in Germany and Europe although there had been strong interest in bringing him there for some time. The band were invited to play at the 40th Annual Burghausen Jazz Festival on March 21st. 09 and the German audience knew they were in for something special! The excitement of the concert was captured on this live CD. Song after song built up with intensity and the audience really responded to the themes in the songs, and the high quality musicianship which left them shouting for more! John Earl Walker's band included two long time band mates; Peter Harris on bass, Slinky Tremelo on guitar, and fantastic new members Frank Diorio on drums, and Tommy Keys on piano.

John Earl Walker has been playing guitar since the mid 60's By the time he was 18 his band were supporting artists like Buddy Guy, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Dr. John, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, and many other luminaries. The band became Capitol recording artists Plum Nelly and played at Carnegie Hall, opening for the James Gang, on May 15, 1971. There aren't too many blues artists who have had the privilege of playing at Carnegie Hall! Since then John Earl has built a reputation as an original and exciting performer. He has enjoyed extensive airplay across the globe and very healthy CD sales. Here's what a few reviewers and fans had to say:

John Earl Walker had never performed in Europe prior to this year’s Burghausen Jazz Festival, but he apparently made quite an impression when he did, judging from the enthusiastic reception he receives from the audience on his latest disc, Live In Germany (Walkright Records). Walker, who has been playing since the mid 60’s and was part of the 70’s group, Plum Nelly, plays a vigorous brand of blues/rock with clever songwriting and a top notch band in support, which seemed to be what the doctor ordered for his audience in this case.

Walker’s previous recordings have received a lot of airplay overseas as well as on the internet, so fans will find a lot to enjoy on this set, which includes eleven songs from the band’s previous CDs. Most of them come from Walker’s latest release, Come Over Here, which was released last year and was the band’s strongest effort to date.

Walker plays some fantastic guitar throughout, particularly on tracks like “I’m Leavin’ You,” “Tess’s Shuffle,” “The World’s A Prison,” “Airport Blues,” and “Nightwalker,” which has to be one of the coolest instrumentals of all time. His guitar playing is, of course, rock-influenced, but he can get down and dirty with the blues with ease. His songwriting is first-rate, with clever twists and turns that elevates the material from the standard blues fare, such as “Backdoor Romance, “Airport Blues,” and “Poor Boy Blues.”

Lending Walker a hand are longtime bandmates Peter Harris (bass), Slinky Tremelo (guitar), and a couple of new members – Frank Diorio (drums) and the appropriately-named Tommy Keys (piano).

This set should really please fans of the band, as it is basically a “greatest hits” collection since it features most of the band’s standout tunes on one CD. For fans of guitar-driven blues/rock (is there any other kind of blues/rock?) unfamiliar with the John Earl Walker Band, it’s a great starting point. Check out the band’s website and their MySpace site.
