ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Last night's cigarettes. . ." is a fourteen - track spoken word project casting reflections on life through the eyes of a working class émigré from the coal-dust covered Scranton, Pennsylvania region.

Once hailed as the Anthracite capital of the world, Scranton and its neighboring communities are a stark example of tireless work ethic and blue-collar pride. As with many areas built on physical labor, calloused hands, and a quick temper are often the measure of the man - and the quality of a job is measured by its endurance; if not by its hourly wage.

Recorded at Scranton's SI Studios and backed by the evocative and versatile playing of local favorites Mighty Fine Wine, "Last nights cigarettes. . ." stirs the dust and lets a little light settle on the things that often go unnoticed in a working class community: the people who live there, the choices they've made, and the effect those choices have on the conditions of their lives.

This is the poetry of addiction, of lives built around the oblivion of sex, music and chemically fueled escapism. It's the music of empty parking lots, written with the engine running - on an evening in May like a page ripped from November. . .

Not your typical CD. It is a collection of poetry by Ben Jezierski that he reads with musical accompaniment. His style mimics that of Jim Morrison's American Prayer, very cool. Overall, it is a great CD to listen to if you are in a mood to question and analyze life.

Sweetie, this was an amazing piece of prose. I have not stopped listening to it. Every time I feel lonely for home I find my way to this CD. I believe this CD has become one of my most prized possessions. Not to sound to over dramatic... ummm, like that is possible... your CD took me home in my mind and my heart. You have captured home like no other could. It's funny, I make people here in Atlanta listen to it and though they are not from "da area" they understand the sadness, the remorse, the loss, because after all that is what being human is all about. On the flip side, it was amazing to hear about the Westside apartment, the cave, JZ, MarkyP, and the threadbear couch. When listening to this CD I can almost reach out and touch these people and things you are writing about. It makes me melancholy and it makes me laugh all at the same time. I believe you would refer to this as that lovely piece of mania that we all have a touch of. I thoroughly enjoy your thoughts and ideas on addictions, mania, women, and our beloved rationalizations. WELL DONE! Perhaps its something in the water "up dare". I love you and thank you for taking me home even if just for a few minutes.

Danielle Cole

words magnifying the brilliance and disgust of humanity
Benjamin Jezierski envelops the listener with his smooth, grainy voice; drawing us deep into his lungs and slowly exhaling us. Sending us back into the air with our edges softened. He takes the unfair bitter qualities of life and shakes them until a sense of understanding falls out and we are left to dance softly along with the motion of easy steps. Benjamin Jezierski releases us- makes us feel better through his admittance and appreciation of personal flaws. Through realizing the beauty and deceit of others that ties us all to the human experience. Last Night’s Cigarettes is an oral presentation of what my bones have been meagerly trying to eek out for years.

Very interesting
This was a great album. The lyrics are sharp and to the point, and very real. You truely can connect with what he is saying. Simply amazing work.
