Album Notes
Dr. Jill Allen is a professional flutist, bassist, teacher and clinician living in the New York City area. Jill received a Doctor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado, and degrees from the University of Minnesota (Master of Music) and Eastman School of Music (Bachelor of Music). Jill was the recipient of a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts to perform and teach in Kansas.

In addition to the release of "I'm Flying" (Jill Allen Quartet, Ambi Records, May 2005), Jill previously released two CDs which feature her as flutist. They include "Two Much Fun!" on Eaglear Records with jazz pianist Skip Wilkins, and "Petty Theft," released in January 2001 on Cathexis Records. This quartet album features saxophonist David Liebman. Dr. Allen is also bassist and flutist of the Gary Wofsey/Jill Allen Jazz Orchestra and Quintet. In May of 2000, Allen and Wofsey released the CD "Gary Wofsey in Stereo" on Ambi Records. Jill has performed and adjudicated on several occasions for the Wichita Jazz Festival, was a clinician and guest soloist with the Syracuse University Jazz Ensemble, and played a full jazz concert for the New York Flute Club. For the past decade, Dr. Allen has taught Jazz Improvisation and Musicianship to young flutists worldwide at the Colorado Suzuki Institute at Snowmass. For the past three consecutive years, Jill was voted into the annual Downbeat Readers Poll, placing among the world's finest players in the Jazz Flute Category. For several years, she served as chair of the National Flute Association Jazz Committee. Dr. Allen is a Yamaha Performing Artist, and played with the Greenwich Village Orchestra for two seasons (2002-04), New York City, performing on flute and piccolo.
