Album Notes
Ballard performs 15 songs in concert with his band which featured Peter McDermott, Jefferson Rice, Steve Sanders, Eddie X, Danny Shapira and Joe Morris. At the time of this concert, he was being courted by 3 different national record labels and making ready to tour. Songs include Painter On The Shore, Into The Heartbeat, Is The Watchman Sleeping, Well Well Well and eleven others, all done with an emotional excitement a notch or two beyond their studio versions. Often compared to Bruce Springsteen and Warren Zevon, Ballard's live concert, along with the songs, run the gamut of emotional peaks and valleys that make you glad you were there. The best performers and songwriters often reinvent their songs and arrangements in concert, and Ballard is no exception here, doing an 'unplugged' version of Rag Tag Gypsies, Bagpipers appearing onstage in The Black Wall and a horn section raising the ante in No Promises.
Ballard continues to produce bands and artists in his Skylyne Studio, compose scores for film and write and record his own material.
