JimiE and the Moral Groove Hyper Soul
Review By Haleh

Sonic Redemption Records

JimiE isn't kidding when he says he has played every club in Orange County.

JimiE and the Moral Groove form a local band that has the makings of success. The first day I met JimiE, both my friend Sandra and I knew he would be a star. We said he had the "It" factor. "It" referring to everything it takes to bring your dream to life and live it fully.

JimiE has recently released his latest project - one of his very best yet - called "Hypersoul." After my first listen, it was clear to me that his years of performing had been helping him to perfect his own sound and style.

When JimiE started out, he was writing and playing all of his own music. Although he still writes all the songs, he has a band now - the Moral Groove. With Brent Arcement on drums, Orlina and Andrea providing JimiE with backup vocals, Rusell Walters on bass, and Hubie Wang and Jessie Gadoy on guitars, the band conveys a complete, full sound.

Back in the day, when I first heard JimiE, my mental warehouse of music brought forward recollections of Prince and Lenny Kravitz. There was no doubt that he sounded like these amazing artists, without intending to vocally sound like them. JimiE was born with his own voice and his own expression of it. However, the similarity was there.

On JimiE's MySpace page he writes of these artists' influence and of his admiration for them. He also mentions Justin Timberlake. As I thought about his words, it occurred to me that JimiE could very well be the next Timberlake. Just listen to "Don't You Believe." This is THE song to hit the airwaves, if it hasn't already. It has soul, as JimiE explains it, "[W]here Soul was still a double meaning encompassing the actual depth, and feel of the music - where lyrics were thought out, expressed…."

Most of us are familiar with this ideology of good music, especially with lyrics; but it's often less felt because of repetition or commonality in notions of love nurtured and lost. In the case of "Hypersoul," and more specificallythe song "Colors," it carries with it a tender feeling and aggressive passion by way of musical expression and sensitivity to its effect.

"Hypersoul" is a mature album with soul and even some all out rocking funk. One of my favorite songs is a house music track called "Undeniable." Turn it up and tune in - JimiE and the Moral Groove are about to take off. See them at Woody's Warf on April 14. The Sound Spectrum has a play copy available for your listening pleasure. A portion of all the profitswill benefit the NCMEC- National Center For Missing and Exploited Children.

Techno Terence Trent D'Arby-esque :: Jimi E and the Moral Groove
Rocked out and funky, great pop.
CD Review

By Kim Thore

Jimi E and the Moral GrooveSuch is the new CD by Jimi E and the Moral Groove entitled "Hypersoul".

Comparisons run rampant to where Justin Timberlake eventually evolved, so it is impressive that Jimi E is already there. The overall feel is velvety and luscious pop that is readily accessible.

Overall, the tracks are smooth renditions with a funky soul backbeat that stick in the groove. And kudos to anyone who has the chops to cover "Sign", and actually give it a new feel.

Hailing from Laguna Beach, CA and formed in 1998 by Jimi E and Gabe Rosales, these two have put together an impressive band and a CD of various genres that somehow at the end of track 10 seem to work as if they were always meant to be together instead of competing amongst the landscape of various styles.

On the whole, “Hypersoul” has international appeal with a mainstream coziness.

This is not a review, But a testomony to the power of music, and its influence, its sparkof hope, Please read, as I was touched after getting this email(Some names have been changed to protect the identity)
So a while ago you had sent an email to your fans(me) asking how your music had affected them or what they thought of it. Well it took me a while to think about what i was going to write. But i just need to let you know what you did for me without even knowing it. So the last time that i saw you, ANONYMOUS had given me a CD it was the purple one with Moral Groove on it. And i listened to it a bunch of times of course. And during this time I got really strung out on crystal meth. And of course had lost myself to this drug. But your song Barrier was one song that inspired me and gave me hope during my darkest hours. I remember being alone and scared and so high and wanting to die and put that CD in my CD player in my truck and started crying because the words just spoke to my heart. "And if you think lifes a barrier then the only way you'll make it through is your faith" I think? But I would listen to it over and over again knowing that someday I would make it through. Well today I have over 3 years clean and sober with nothing fogging my mind or my judgment. I just wanted to thank you for making a song that helped me get through the worst of the worst in my life. Do you remember last year when I asked you for the CD and you sent me just the DVD? Well that is the reason that it was so important for me. Anyways take care and let me know when you are going to make that CD available for public purchase. I would love to have it again. Thanks for just hearing me out. Take care and keep rockin

xoxo~Sausha
