Album Notes
Jimi is one of Senegal's most popular musicians and has been a member of Youssou N'dour's Super Etoile de Dakar since 1979. Jimi has a unique guitar style which ranges from the sound of traditional instruments like the Kora to blazing rock guitar solos. On his second solo album, Jimi proves that he's also a great singer. In his first album « Dakar Heart »Jimi received the most positive critics in America. The album got in 1998 the "Indie Awards" in the category « Contemporary World »The second album was made in his Studio Dogo in his fine home in Dakar (Senegal),where he's producing many oher artists of the country. This is really an album to have and to listen to.His guitar playing is unique.Sometimes you hear the Kora and sometimes you hear the Khalam,Both traditionnal instruments from Africa.Jimi is really a great guitar player and a great Singer too.
Sometimes if you want to do some recordings or get help in arranging and producing your music, don't hesitate to contact Jimi Mbaye, and you'll see he's gonna be really happy to help you in that production.
Here's what some of the critics are saying about "Dakar Heart" and "Yaye Digalma",the two albums Jimi Mbaye already made for us:
"Poetic and achingly beautiful, Dakar Heart takes 'world music' to new heights. Alternately political and personal, and always passionate, the record reveals Mbaye as a true artist and lyricist. His songs are filled with love, hope and a desparate cry for peace, whether it be peace between nations or peace with one's soul. Dakar Heart is an elegant masterpiece."
"The solo debut for Youssou N'dour's guitarist Jimi Mbaye shines a deserved spotlight on a prodigious world music talent."
"Mbaye continues to prove he is one of Senegal's most exciting musicians"

Incredible rhythms and guitar work. The percussion was also phenomenal. I could close my eyes and let the singers' voices take me to Africa, especially on a good sound system. The recording was top notch. Definitely recommend it.

Youssou Ndour's lead guitarist, Jimi Mbaye, presents a moving, 10-track album of Senegalese Afropop. With the complementary use of acoustic, traditional instruments in synch with singing electric guitars and western influences, "Yaye Digalma" is a refreshing, personable album, an important addition to the collector of Afropop.

Vibrant, precise, passionate
Jimi M'baye is on top of his game here, playing a passionate and high-spirited sound with sweeping declarative vocals and a piercing single-note guitar style. He's in a groove that some might wish had a little more range, but it's hard to kick when the sound keeps coming so fast and fine.
