Album Notes
Jim Jones releases his ninth album, Race with the Wind, a compilation of songs dedicated to the American West, in March, 2015. The 2014 winner of the Western Music Association's Male Performer of the Year, Jim sings about cowboys, horses, cattle, cattle rustlers and the beauty of the landscape of the West. His songs tell stories written from personal experience and keen observation of things that happen around him as well as his well-rounded knowledge of the West.
A native Texan who makes his home in New Mexico, Jim follows in the great folk tradition of Woody Guthrie, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Ian Tyson and Chuck Pyle. Like those who have gone before, he is a philosopher who often presents his thoughts and ideas in a sharp and self-deprecating wit.
Jim is no stranger to awards, having won the 2013 Western Writers of America Spur Award for Western Song of the year for “Texas is Burnin’,” from his Borrowed Time CD. Also an award-winning novelist, Jim is well known for his Jared Delaney Trilogy: Rustler’s Moon, Colorado Moon and Waning Moon set in New Mexico. The multi-talented writer claims they are “loosely based in fact but basically a pack of lies I made up.”
The singer/songwriter’s performance schedule is as varied as his writing life – he has performed in honky-tonks and churches, schools and Irish pubs, campfires and high teas. He is in great demand on the western music circuit, folk music venues and house concerts.
