Album Notes
Originally composed in 2006, "Mele Mehenune" is a beautifully visual but non-verbal love song inspired by the mythical little people of Kaua'i, the Menehune. The rich and vivid landscape of Kaua'i North Shore provides the backdrop for this "story" as Kimo's guitar conjures up the sounds of Na Pali waterfalls, 'iwi 'iwi birds and the pristine reefs that ring the coastline.
Legend has it that the Menehune were living on Kaua'i when the first Polynesian voyagers arrived from the Marquesas, the Cook Islands and Tahiti, and were famous for their amazing feats such as building extensive rock walls and structures in one night!
Composed in a cinematic style, this suite expands the role of ki ho'alu (Hawaiian "slack key" guitar) in instrumental music and also features one of the first uses of baritone acoustic guitar is slack key recordings .
