Album Notes
This track is from the out-of-print CD, "Nurturing The Garden" which was commissioned by the National Tropical Botanical Garden in 2001, for the dedication of the new McBryde Garden on Kaua'i. It was composed by JIm Kimo West in his own "Anuenue" tuning: D A E F# A B, low to high and was inspired by the sound of Hawaii's sugar cane trains.
From the liner notes:
"When Elizabeth McBryde bought Lawai valley, she leased lower lands to Chinese rice growers and taro planters, while planting the upper valley in sugar cane. To supply the insatiable thirst if the sugar cane plants, a series of pumps was built to move water from deep wells. Pump six was a landmark, positioned on the narrow gauge railway that ran through the valley hauling the sugar cane to the mill."
